“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012 via mobile

Great experience for a little price. This places offers a walkaround for about 1 hour with steam holes, mud pools and sulfur lakes for only 6 NZD. If you have time walk up to the lookout to see a landscape which looks like nothing you probably have seen before. Steam comes out a lot of places and some are pretty loud like a whistle tea maker. Enjoy this experience and vitness something which is hard to find again.

“excited....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

these were a bit disappointing in that it was quite a short walk and not much information around the walkway either.
it was good to see the boiling mud etc if you have never been to see this type of thing before but not as dramatic as the name suggests. the gift shop was very poor as well..

“Value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

You pay a small fee $6 adult, to see this natural wonder. You can get quite close via the boardwalk to the steam, boiling mud and, it is quite pretty. It's definitely worth walking up the steep track at the very end to see the view out to the mountains and lake (on a clear day).

“Interesting place to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

The 6 dollar entrance is reasonable value for money to walk through this well maintained area. Not as spectacular as Rotorua but seeing the steam rise from the ground in an unspoilt landscape is pretty impressive.

“Steamy Landscape”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

This is a must if you are interested in volcanic activity. After paying the admission fee ($5-6 NZ), you walk across a boardwalk through and over different steaming fumaroles and bubbling mud volcanoes. It's not as grand as what is found in Rotarua, but still pretty neat to see. Plus, we saw a few rainbows (an apparently common sight in the magical land that is NZ) that took up the entire sky. The main boardwalk loop is about a mile with an optional short (but steep) side trip up the side of a small mountain, which I definitely recommend for the views of all the steam rising from the earth.
