Description: Voted Lonely Planet's No 1 cafe pick for the Central North Island and one of the top 10 places to visit in New Zealand. L'Arte Cafe and Gallery is not to be missed when visiting Taupo. Allow yourself time to experience something very unique and special! A trip to L'Arte is a visual and edible feast and unlike anything you have experienced before. The cafe and gallery are both set in a magical garden, complete with an outside mosaic living room. The food and art at L'Arte's unique destination are both exquisite. Resident ceramic artist Judi Brennan's work is evident everywhere and is sold exclusively from the gallery at L'Arte. L'Arte Cafe serves Allpress coffee, has a wonderful selection of New Zealand wines and beers and the excellent service exceeds all expectations. With New Zealand's finest produce, L'Arte's kitchen team produce everything fresh on-site, from homemade bread to homemade pesto and onion jam. We have also created a small deli so you can take some of L'Arte home with you. L'Arte Cafe, Gallery and Garden is a special holiday experience that will stay with you .........

“Worth a visit”

We had lunch at L'Arte today--a rainy day during the offseason in Tauro. With its colorful outdoor mosaics and sculptures, this cafe has a unique setting a few km outside Taupo. Very good food and service. We especially enjoyed the pumpkin soup and our companion really liked the eggs benedict. Definitely worth a visit.

“Wonderful mosaics, crap service”
Reviewed February 25, 2011

My partner and I visited L'Arte recently while on holiday in Taupo. The display of mosaics is truely impressive, right down to the mosaic outdoor tables at the cafe. The setting is peaceful and park-like...nice for just chilling out. You do need your own transport to get to L'Arte. We went to the cafe for morning tea hoping to find something gluten free to have with our coffees as this establishment advertises it has a large selection of gluten free items on the menu. Unfortunately, the only gluten free items were savouries that were way too substantial for a.m. tea and in fact were more what you would order for lunch. So we decided to forego food and just have coffee. So we waited...and waited...and waited. The cafe was about a third full...just the outdoor tables occupied...so we couldn't quite figure out what the delay was. My coffee turned up after 15 minutes...my partners took another 5 minutes...so I'd finished mine by this stage. I guess I would say, if you have LOTS of time to kill, its worth the visit...but if you are planning on doing other things with your day or like me, you are on a gluten free diet and fancy something small with your morning coffee, there are much better options in Taupo town itself.
