Hi
My girlfriend and I wanted to go out for a nice evening dinner after a long day out in Mount Ruapehu and Taupo.
We both decided on eating here which was the worst decision we made. The waiters are not welcoming , the decor looks tired with seats with holes with leather torn at places.
Then the waiter came up to us to chucked the menu at us with no smile or minimum complimentaries. We ordered our food and the waiter seemed rude when we decided to change our order whilst ordering with a shake of his head suggesting how dare we change our order and make him rewrite.
Then the first thing we got was rice which we did not order rice and the waiter said it was complimentary and we said we did not like rice and asked him politely to take it away.
That seemed to annoy the other waiter too and licked up the bowl of rice n left in disgust.
This is enough for us to get up leave and I gave them piece of my mind before I left without eating there.
I think since they are doing good business , they are more than willing to be rude n risk some customers.

I suggest you stay away and try any other place but INDIAN SAFARI

Appalling food, awful curry's that lacked any form of authentic traditional Indian flavours. Poor, definitely would not return.

We rolled up towards the end of the dinner slot (not exactly late! About 9pm) but were seated straight away. That the place was full of Indian families should have been a good sign. Service was patchy though, had to remind them about drinks order. Ordered starters of samosas and onion bhajis - the samosas were huge and tasty - two of them, but the bhajis has been cooked once, then chopped into small pieces and deep fried again, to remove any danger of them being succulent. There was a huge pile of this dry stuff - way too much. So even though we deliberately didn't eat all the starters, we still didn't have enough room to make a dent on the mains. The rogan josh was tasty. The mango chicken a bit sweet but still ok. Service continued to be patchy throughout. Nan bread forced on us "on the house" even though we had said three times we didn't want any. Two portions of rice arrived although we only ordered 1. They don't do veg side dishes but were prepared to give us a normal size sag paneer at a side dish price, thank you - In summary - don't have a starter, prepare to have to keep jogging the waiting staff's memory about why they are there.

Indian Affair is the Indian place to go in Taupo. The portions sizes are great - my friend and I shared one curry between two because we weren't starving (and wanted dessert) and it was plenty. The entire staff were extremely welcoming and helped with all our Gluten Free and Vegetarian requests. And did I mention delicious? The curry was full of flavour (it was something vegetarian...).

Perfect dinner out!
