Kauri Point is a wonderful place to base a visit to beautiful Lake Taupo. Just a short drive from the town in a counrtyside setting with great views. Gail and Robert are excellent hosts and made us feel most welcome. A huge deck, spa, spacous dining and lounge and high quality comfortable rooms added to our experience. A big breakfact got our days off to a good start and Robert's travel tips were very useful. We would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are high quality

We stayed for 5 nights at Kauri Point at the end of our stay in NZ -I'm glad we saved the best until last. Gail and Robert made us feel so welcome and by the time we left, we felt like part of the family!

Beautifully decorated rooms, great breakfast, fabulous evening meals and wonderful conversation with the hosts and other guests over a bottle of wine or two.

What we particularly loved about this place was that you really can feel at home - you can hang around all day or pop in and out - not like some places where you feel you have to be out all day. So you can relax and come and go at your leisure. There's always tea, coffee, cold drinks and cakes (yummy) available in the kitchenette area.

Kauri Point is a short drive from the centre of Taupo so it's ideally placed for a quiet break whilst still being close to the action. It's a great location to go explore all of the thermal region, whilst still being able to do places like Napier and Hastings within the day.

Thanks Gail and Robert - we really had a brilliant time and felt like we made some new friends! PS please can we have your prawn recipe!!

Thank you both for your kind words. We did have a few good evenings with you out on the deck and were sad to see you go!!!
As for the prawns they're easy - Marinade raw prawns in garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, lots of fresh parsley, chopped red chillies, lemon grass and ginger ( or cheat with a tube of Thai spice paste) and black pepper. Cook on the hot plate of the BBQ - Done! Perfect! Enjoy!

We decided to tour the North Island, in March 2011, in a car and sleeping at B&Bs. Let me tell you what a gem this place was. It doesn't matter if you pay full rate for your room - the experience does not disappoint. And don't be fooled by those "Self-Rating" places. Any Tom, Dick, or Harry can rate themselves highly, but Gail and Robert prove that their establishment, day in and day out, is worthy of #1 in Lake Taupo.

The bed that we had was the best bed i have slept in during my whole trip in Nz! I still think about that sleep, deep and peaceful! The room we had was so spacious that for 2 nights we stayed at the B&B, it felt as if had stopped living out of a car and suitcase!

Kauri Point is a clean, hospitable, and very well maintained Bed and Breakfast. Don't go to any other place, when staying in Lake Taupo - you would be doing yourself an injustice.

Thanks for a wonderful time Gail, Robert!

We would like to thank you for such a glowing report - if only we could get 6 stars!!! Never the less our aim is to give all our guests a 5 star experience and are happy to see that your reviews confirm that this is the case. Without your reviews we would not be currently Number 1 on trip Advisor for Taupo so a big THANK YOU to you all!!!

We had a wonderful experience at Kauri Point Homestay. The owners
Robert and Gail are delightful as is their lovable dog, Barney.

We thoroughly enjoyed the warm hospitality - including a full,
delicious breakfast, peaceful setting, superior linens/luxurious king
bed, large beautifully decorated ensuite room - and lively discussions
with our congenial hosts. You do not want to miss out on this excellent
B&B. We loved it so much that we returned at the end of our vacation.

If you plan to include Lake Taupo on your NZ itinerary (and you
should), we highly recommend Kauri Point Homestay!

Kauri-point was such a wonderful place to stay. If you are staying around Lake Taupo book this as your destination. A few minutes out from the main area and you find this a wonderful place to relax after you have been out all day. Bedrooms are large with lovely cozy beds. Breakfast was great, and it was amazing sitting around chatting to the other guests. Different ages, different countries and such a lot to talk about. I loved the glass of wine on the deck before dinner. We had dinner at Kauri Point too for a couple of nights, and the food was excellent. The best of course were our hosts Gail and Robert who couldn't do enough for us. Happy memories and thanks for the laughs!
Hopefully we can return and see you and your wonderful country again.
