A friend of ours recommended a quad bike adventure on our tour of NZ, and Taupo Quad Adventures was reviewed highly on various websites.
We completely agree with the ratings. Taking the two hour tour, we started off cruising around paddocks and easier tracks so that everyone could become accustomed to the machines. Things then became more adventurous as we started climbing up through the forest.
After an hour or so of climbing, we pulled up at a clearing with a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. John then treated us to Coffee, Milo, Tea and biscuits as we chatted about New Zealand, travelling and life in general.
You can ride at your own level, so there is no pressure, but his is no cotton-wool wrapped, fairy-floss pretend ride. This is a fair-dinkum quad bike tour. If you're silly, you can hurt yourself but if you listen to the guide and ride within your abilities, you will have an absolute blast.
My 14 year old daughter had never ridden anything like this before, but by the end of the tour was climbing goat tracks like she had been doing it for years. She reckons this even beat the Luge in Rotorua!
Step out of your comfort zone and give something like this a try. You'll be on a high for hours after!
