This is a nice place to visit if you're not concerned about catching prawns. Because you're not likely to. We had 5 lines in the water for 1 hour+ and caught 1 prawn...and it wasn't just us...I didn't see anyone reeling them in.
That said, the park is nice to walk in, especially where is goes by the river and you can see trout swimming in the clear waters.
They really should re-conceptualize what this place is about. It's got great potential, just not for prawn-fishing!

This place is SO expensive, very poor value for money. The prawns are almost impossible to catch, not a good activity for the kids as they get disheartened. We caught two but were fishing for a very very long time. Its a very complicated process to learn how to catch them. If it cost $30 for a family then yes it may be worth it, but my goodness we forked out $65+

We've eaten here several times over the years and the food is always great. We consider it a fine weather venue as we like to sit outside, watch the younger children in the sandpit and the jet boats taking tourists to view the Huka Falls. Having said that - they have a large indoor restaurant with children's play area. This time we tried prawn fishing - only 1 prawn caught - but the children enjoyed fishing - of course catching more would have made it even better. Then we walked the rest of the park and what surprised me was that everyone enjoyed the warm foot bath. Sounds like the tour would be good but we were too late for that.

The tour with the guide is a must if you want to learn how to fish for prawns. The whole day was enjoyable and very informative. Food in the restaurant was also excellent. We cooked our prawns at the place.

My family went on quite a cold day. The tour was excellent and it was fascinating to see how they looked after the prawns. We then went outside to fish for prawns but only managed to catch one - which managed to escape. Not many other people caught anything either. Not sure if the lack of prawns was weather related.
