“Disappointing”

If your looking for some where with a personal touch or even someone to welcome you, you defiantly wont find it here! you have to phone them for everything which is not on when your paying to stay there. The room was a good size but the wifi didn't work, the milk was frozen, there was no where to wash up dirty plates (as was strictly instructed to do this),wasn't within easy walking distance for going out for food. Then we had to phone the owners back for payment of the room and they didn't even ask if we had a nice stay no interest at all except in getting your money. Would not recommended this accommodation for the money as there is plenty other places to choice from.

The apartment was a good size with a nice view - that's the only positive. There was no-one there to meet you - you had to call a mobile number and then were instructed that your keys were in a box. I had to call back again once inside to find out about WiFi and checkout details. There is no information in the apartment apart from a list of rules of what you cannot do. At first glance it appears clean but on closer inspection it's dusty and grimy. The shower screen was really dirty. The coffee, tea and sugar are in containers that are dirty looking and really unhygienic. The complimentary toiletries are self filled plastic containers with shampoo and conditioner stickers on them - one of which was totally empty. There was no remote for the TV! The bed was hard as a rock and was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. The lights were really dim. It could be a great spot if the owners took the time to spend some money on cleaning and small luxury touches. Based on it's current condition I would not recommend this place to anyone - avoid at all costs.

For some bizarre reason I booked this through Wotif before checking the TA reviews. After reading those reviews we thought "Aaaaargh", but then we quickly decided that the last night of our holiday would not be a disaster so we made a decision to enjoy whatever came our way. We rolled up looking forward to meeting the man with the clipboard and sure enough he appeared from around the side of the property. He wasn't grumpy, or dirty, and he let us know we'd be upgraded from our queen room booking to the whole shebang. A very large living area downstairs and the equally expansive upper living area. The bed was super brilliant! Yes, there were a number of notices re don't do this or you will be charged, but you'd have to be a muppet to do half of the things on the list. So not super welcoming, but it was rather luxurious and it turned out to be a very good grand finale to our holiday.

We had pre-booked this via Booking.com on a no-prepayment, no deposit basis, with cancellation two days prior to arrival. On arrival we were met by a dirty, grumpy man carrying a clip board how told us we were not allowed to book in until after 3pm - they say 24 hour check-in service available. We were given a key to the room and the man disappeared, never to be seen again. The accommodation is in a house, there is no reception area of any kind.
To be fair, the room was OK, had wonderful views of the lake but it did not make up for the constant uneasy feelings about the place. The rules upon the wall were very disturbing, as we are sure other visitors will have found. Overall it was not very clean and the equipment was poor.
As we had not seen anyone during our stay, we wondered how we were going to pay, so telephoned the no on our booking sheet. NO reply so sent a text asking when and how we could pay. Text came back - you have paid by credit card. |We certainly hadn't to our knowledge so sent a text back asking when and how much. Text back - we don't have that information but will let you know. No further response even after further texts and calls.
When phoning bank at home, they had taken the money a week before our visit, even before we had arrived in New Zealand. Due to the rules written on the walls saying they would charge for excess water and heating use, and any damage caused after a stay, plus the fact they key had to be left in an open box outside upon leaving, we cancelled our credit card just in case they tried to take further money. Anyone could have gone into the rooms and what constitutes excess use??????????
Booking.com have tried to contact the owners but are getting no response.
Are these

Room Tip: None - don't stay here unless you have no other choice

We made a "no-prepayment, no deposit" booking via Booking.com. Two months before our stay payment was taken - we feel our credit card details were abused, and this is a big problem Booking.com need to address. We cancelled a month before our stay, and contacted the place direct to ask for a refund - no reply from them. I contacted Booking.com and although they were always helpful and polite on the phone, I got various answers such as "the refund is on its way", then "we can't contact the owner", then "we can't get confirmation from the owner of the refund so the case is closed"! As I was travelling I was not in a position to send them a copy of the credit card statement showing the booking, but surely they must have a commision payment showing on their system if payment has been taken, or what is going on?

So, we turned up on the doorstep to see what the owner had to say. The property is on a partly built housing estate some way out of town. We called the phone number on the door as we could get no answer. Alan answered the phone, and gave us some excuse about an error in the refund being made by his accountants. He did call us back to confirm it would now be processed within 3 days. We were in Taupo again on the day it was due, and it did finallyappear on our card statement.

Made a booking through Booking.Com for 2 nigjhts at a cost of $218 with a no cost cancellation policy and pay the property on arrival detailed in the booking form.
Two days after booking I noticed I had been charged the full amount on my credit card. I was really annoyed and started to feel uncomfortable about the place. Four days later I cancelled the booking.
I expected a refund quickly - but oh no!! I made 3 calls to Booking.Com who contacted the manager. He had some silly story about a glitch in the system which I did not believe. Was told I would be refunded soon.
After 6 weeks and no refund I contacted the manager myself and was told another story. Yet again after another week my partner rang and demanded a refund. Funally recieved 7 weeks after cancellation. Iwas really annoyed as I had been paying interest on my credit card for the charged amount. This is the weirdest way of doing business I have ever experienced in all my travels worldwide.

This place is an apartment not a hotel BUT never the less its a nice retreat. It is set In a urban suburb just outside Taupo town. Which is nice not to be on the main drag.
We arrived and as pervious travellers have said a man come out with a clipboard, He was nice enough and upgraded us!! CHOICE!!! The "chateu" was fully occupied. Clean, and quiet. List of rules like any other place.
Would recommend. Adult only though. Would stay there again.
