Went on a Saturday with friends for lunch. The place was very busy, crowded and noisy. The food was delicious with a wide variety of cabinet choices and menus. The service was very good, nothing to complain about. Great atmosphere, the decor reminds you of an old store you would find in a small US town. The staff wear appropriate outfits with pinnys and kerchiefs tied around their heads. They look like they come from the 1940s era. This is the reason for the name change and has new owners. Would go again but not on a Saturday, as it is too crowded.

Business lunches usually mean a quick tasteless sandwich, coffee and then run. While meeting in San Diego we ordered lunch from Zanzibar and enjoyed it so much we actually went there for lunch the next day. The chopped salad with chicken was very good. Fresh grilled chicken mixed with chopped lettuce, olives, feta cheese and a light dressing. Others had the vegetable flat bread which was like a long crisp crust pizza with fresh grilled onions, peppers and other veggies on top. Excellent. The sandwiches all looked good and the servers while slow were friendly and helpful. A great place to relax and enjoy the fresh ingredients of the area.

One of the few places in New Plymouth where the coffee is very good. The chefs menu is excellent with too many good choices. The cabinet food is too similar to the menu and would be better to have traditional cafe food like scones and sandwiches for thos who are not in for a full meal. Service I received was first class and will definitely go to Zanzibar again.

Went with a party of 15 for lunch, food was great, service was good but not great.
Had double up on coffee orders, did not come back to see if we wanted any more alcohol after the initial order (lost revenue). Prices are pretty good and value for money and would definately go back again.

Getting very tired. Cabinet food is just ok. Menu food is not too bad but can take a while to get to the table. Service can be quite casual but generally good. Gets very noisy if there is a crowd in. Good coffee. Will return but would like to see some changes.
