It might be out of town, and away from the bright lights but what a wonderful spot!
Loved our unit overlooking the river. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and so peaceful.
Lots of wildlife, rabbits, sheep, cows. Possibly the best accommodation we found on our trip around the north island.
You won't be disappointed.

The rooms are set in lovely countryside and ours faced a wooded hillside on the far side of the river which was a super thing to see out of the window. You need a car to get from the rooms to the reception area, the drive is so long. !! Also enjoyed watching unusual birds feeding on the lawns in front of our room.
From the end of the drive, on a clear day (rather like Snowdon in North Wales!!), there is a fabulous view of Mt Taranaki, which gobsmacked us when we did see it. Such a perfect shape!!
If you want high life on the doorstep of our hotel, don't book here, but if you want peace and quiet and a good night's sleep,do!
Staff were kind and let me print boarding cards in their office.

Room Tip: Ask the staff's opinion.

Resort was easy to find which is out of town a bit. Check in is at the top when you drive in then you are directed to your villa to which you drive to.
Had a room overlooking the valley very peaceful. With a verandah that runs the length from the 1st villa to the last with only short privacy dividers between each but once you sit out at the table & chairs no privacy only way is to bring them in closer to the room. But we did not even sit on them as they looked quite unstable & weather beaten
Large room with great KS bed, table & chairs & 2 person lounge, a log fire place (which had not been cleaned out for some time bad mark against the cleaners) there was ample wood stacked for use
Good size bathroom with spa bath & separate shower. Towels were a bit thin on it but did the job.
Kitchen had the usual + microwave & hob for any cooking
All very clean except: never have we had a wet dishcloth obviously used from the previous guests & not replaced by the cleaners & the fireplace as mentioned.
Then we come to what must be the oldest type TV we have encounted for years on our travels
Picture will tell a thousand words. The rugby league was on from Australia & our team was playing otherwise normally the TV is not a big issue as one is not on hols to watch a lot of TV.
But for the modern look of these villas the TVs are a bit if a joke in this day & age.

Looking for something different with a bit of space at New Plymouth, we stumbled on the Burgess Hill Apartments. What a brilliant place just outside of town, and such charming and thoughtful management. On arrival the manager offered us an upgrade to a rather nice apartment closer to the river. And the apartment had everything, useful kitchen to grill the wonderful NZ blue cod, space and all the 5 star accoutrements one could wish for. There was even a slow burning stove inside and grazing sheep outside for the guests amusement. Being off the road and out of town, a perfect quiet night was easily achieved, and all for a price which certainly did not threaten the wallet.

Room Tip: Try an upgrade for even better value

This was the best value of all my nights in NZ. I wanted something just outside town and it proved to be little bit of sanctuary right off the main road from the mountain to town. As others have said, room quality was great and staff very friendly. I was even able to do laundry for free. I will definitely recommend it.

We recently stayed here for one night and wished we could have stayed longer. Everything was just perfect - our room was well equipt, elegant and spacious with a view to die for! It is a little out of town but that made the experience even nicer as the setting was peaceful and felt very safe.

We recently stayed here and were very impressed with the quality of the accommodation. Check in was incredibly easy and staff were friendly and hospitable. The privacy of the rooms was excellent. Interiors are modern with high quality appliances and artworks. The tables outside the rooms are lovely if the weather is sunny. The area feels so safe and secure... We slept with the door open the entire way and heard the cascading river below swishing all night. It was pure bliss. We did have a few issues with the wifi. Our code didn't work and we had to share a device because were only issued one code between the two of us which did make it tricky at times. The spa made the experience that much better. I would highly recommend this accommodation and will definitely be back when I visit NZ again.

Room Tip: We selected a river view room with a spa for $145 per night. The laundry is free to use and includes...
