“perfect peaceful paradise”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We stayed here for a little over 3 weeks and couldnt have asked for a more perfect place to stay and enjoy. Peaceful paradise with amazing service and great rooms. Loved having a fire in our lounge and even better having someone else chop and deliver the wood :)
cannot recommend higher in the surrounding area or anywhere else in NZ for that matter :)

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the rooms with a separate bedroom upstairs. It was great to have the lounge/kitc...

Based approx. 5 mins drive out of downtown New Plymouth, One Burgess Hill is a modern motel with beautiful, quiet surroundings. We booked a one bedroom studio - well insulated with double glazing and a good, hot shower. This room also had a kitchette with two hot plates, microwave, fridge, sink and all the necessary crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. The most striking thing about One Burgess Hill is the setting, overlooking fast running river rapids and farmland, it's a tranquil spot to retire to after a full day of sightseeing around New Plymouth and Northern Taranaki.

Room Tip: Room 8 - an executive studio - has a free standing bath in the bedroom, positioned by the window. M...

Talk about value for money. A location like this, layout, design, style, views would justify rates 3x the price. Great outlook over the river, nice grounds, attentive help from the staff. No onsite restaurant but has arrangement for deliveries from 3 which get added to your bill. Complementary beer or wine offered on arrival. I will definitely be returning.

Andrew was very welcoming, ensured we knew how to get into town for dinner, and provided a brochure on restaurants. Our dinner at Salt was divine. Our studio was totally self_contained with a high end fitout. The setting is tranquil with a rural outlook that we could settled into permanently.

As part of our road trip around New Zealand we decided to drive from Auckland to New Plymouth with different stopovers for scene sighting in just one day (which is mental if you ask me... you need to stop somewhere else before if you want to do it) end by the end of that day (close to 10:30) we decided to give this guys a shout to let them know we were coming.

We arrived at 1:15AM and were received with a quarter of milk for our room, cocoa powder if we wanted to make some hot chocolate the next day and the keys to our room. The receptionist (I think it was the owner) seemed a tad upset with us (naturally) but in the end she was extremely kind. Our room was a classic studio and the view is excellent. We paid close to 100 Australian dollars (or nz$120) and the service was pretty good. The bed was very comfortable and you could definitely oversleep without really wanting as you feel the bed is hugging you and don't want to let go of you.

Is a great place to stay. Highly recommended.

If you are planning to go for a hike in Egmont National Park this has to be your place to stay as you will feel energised after that wonderful night of sleep. We were actually considering to stay longer but they had another reservation for the next day and we had to keep to our schedule.

Room Tip: We only had the classic studio but there were some (more expensive) with better view and more space...

These units are located a little way out of downtown New Plymouth but are certainly worth the effort of the short drive into town.
Situated in spacious well manicured grounds the units look across lawns/paddocks to a fast flowing river and hills. Lots of birds and other wildlife can be observed from the balcony particularly in the early mornings and late afternoon.
The units are totally self contained and furnishings are top grade. There is a small kitchenette with a two burner hot plate, microwave, toaster, large sink, and enough cutlery and crockery to hold a banqet.
The bedroom/lounge are combined but very spacious with high ceilings. The bed is a huge and comfortable king with lovely soft pillows.
A flat screen TV with Sky channels is provided with a comfortable couch to sit on. There is a dining table with two chairs. Iron and ironing board are provided.
The bathroom is beautifully appointed with a huge bath, shower toilet etc. Toiletries, big range of coffee/tea etc are provided even down to a couple of chocolates for after dinner.
Cable internet is provided at a minimal cost.
This property is top of the range but with reasonable rates so if you are looking for somewhere plush, tranquil(can walk down to the river) then I would not go pas this place

Not sure I should share this wonderful property as it is being harder to book my monthly stay here!
I travel to New Plymouth monthly on business and love my two nights here.
A wonderful rural setting, how many other motels do you have to stop to let quails cross the road...
An awesome out look over the river, with a lovely walk which is very relaxing of an evening.
Fantastic rooms, very comfortable and the added bonus of baths. All of the rooms are well heated, or cooled with heat pumps/air conditioning.
Extremely quiet, being a rural setting.
As a business traveller the wireless connection is a must and this is well provided for.
Andrew and Hamish are wonder hosts, always very friendly and welcoming.
