we frequently use the walkway for walking and cycling, it is fully paved, and it follows the coast from the port to Bell Block north of New Plymouth. The views of the sea are lovely. The highlight is the Te Rewarewa bridge.

Great coastal walkway whether the sun is out or not. Walking around the breakwater and looking out over the port is lovely.

What a great idea, and well maintained. 6 kms total length, but you don't have to do it all. We parked at Puke Ariki, crossed the rail tracks and did a little wander which was great. Weather was great whilst we were there, but high winds are well known here, so be warned unless you're built tough like the locals!
