Many years since I was last in Pukekura Park. It brought back happy memories and is still a great place to visit.

“Brooklands Zoo great for kids but staff surly”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Took our family visiting from Australia to the zoo on a beautiful day, place was immaculate however the staff when you asked them questions did not respond in a pleasant manner and in one case a lady "Anna" was quite rude and we felt like we should not have been there getting in her way. Not a good way to treat visitors to our city and staff probably need to go to Kiwi Host or something similar to learn how to interact with people.
Apart from this a great place to spend a day out and have a picnic with the kids.

“Shame about the tea house”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

I love Pukekura Park and will go back each time I am in New Plymouth - the last time we decided to try the tea house as I understood it had been upgraded - a lunch there was highly anticipated -

Imagine my shock and disappointment with what I found - 70's chrome and vinyl tables and chairs with faux period panelling. If that wasn't bad enough the place was decked out in the most trashy Christmas Decorations - too hideous to describe. And the food - or lack of it. Some rather tired cakes in the display cabinet - a blackboard menu with a few Mexican selections (exactly what you wouldn't expect in a Tea house) Macaroni Cheese and Toasted Sandwiches....dull dull dull. The food was cold, bland and forgettable. The service was casual and too familiar.

What a huge missed opportunity - where were the devonshire teas? where was the decor sympathetic with the history of the building - why the trashy Xmas decorations and fake tree when we were surrounded by beautiful gardens???

Had it been half decent we may have returned but in it's current format it is an embarrassment to the people of New Plymouth - time to lift your game!

“Blooming wonderful”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We spent an afternoon wandering around the Park and had afternoon tea at the Team Rooms in the park. This is a wonderful example of Kiwi gardening and design. A great place to wander and view the different type of flora, the ducks in the lakes seemed very friendly and looked as though they had a tranquil lifestyle. We thought this was a little taste of heaven and would highly recommend for all visitors to New Plymouth.

“Pukekura Park - an Oasis in the City”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

Just a beautiful beautiful park in the middle of the city.
Such a long history and it began with a land bequest by a city forefather.
Safe morning, noon and evening.
Birds, Trees, Plants, Water, Eels, waterfall, fountain, boats, lighting extravaganza over Christmas/New Year every year.......ALL FREE.
Brooklands Park is an extension of Pukekura - more plants, trees, birds and a zoo! And WOMAD every year in March......
A Place Like No Other
