There was a lack ogf content in the Museum, but the building itself was wonderful
Its certainly worth a visit on a rainy day

Mini me Te Papa. Really well done. Interesting displays on the dairy and oil industry. Also interesting local photography exhibition when we were there. Definitely worth a look - especially if raining!

We really enjoyed this museum, quite impressive for a provincial museum. Lots of history of the area. Our 6 yr old daughter didn't get bored, it was just the right size for her.

If you're in New Plymouth with some time on your hands, the Puke Ariki centre is free admission and will give you an opportunity to learn a little of the history and people of the Taranaki region. I'm not much of a 'museum person' but thought that this was quite good, especially in light of the fact that it is a cultural resource freely shared with its visitors.

As a foreign visitor, there were times when more context would have helped me better interpret some of the historical events described (e.g., Musket wars were referred to without explanation) but on the whole it was very good and of similar quality to most city museums (hence my "average" rating).
