“Super Duper - left my makeup bag!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

Convenient stay, was bit nippy but it did not matter to me.. I like the new refurbishments aswell.

Shower is great, I called my room.. the Dolls House, that was a bit of a laugh about that.
Nice bedding sorry I ruined it.

Looking forward to my makeup bag being sent back to me with the help of my bag-in-bag postage paid.. im not sure about the directions in which you told me to send it.... "16 Northgate",..

I put the suburb there.. just incase ! Hope it gets to you so my makeup bag gets back to me

We would like to say that we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes, the Queen Studios have had some refurbishment done to them since April 2013. The new bedcoverings, curtains and bedside lights have added to a guests stay. We hope to see you again at The Strand.

The resident owner (Janice) who provided an old style type hospitality for so many years has sold this establishment to a younger couple who intend to upgrade facilities. New WIFI equipment being installed was appreciated. However, unit 8 has a problem with plumbing, so that one was woken when occupants from adjoining unit flushed the toilet at night. A request to upgrade to a larger and better equipped unit caused some upset as it was presumed we were not prepared to pay the difference in rates. Happy to pay an extra $10.00 for room, plus $20.00 to pay for clean linen, but not happy that office is now unmanned for much of the day. A mobile phone needed to contact owners on arrival!

Room Tip: Avoid unit 8 to get an uninterrupted sleep!

Thankyou for your review. There have been many positive improvements made by the new owners since April 2013. There a conference phone in reception for guests to use if they wish to contact the owners. This new style of providing accommodation has been received in a very positive way from new and returning guests. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the unlimited FREE wireless internet. We hope to see you again.

Janice the owner was very helpful. She moved things around to allow us to be able to stay an extra day. Less than $100.00 for 3 people was our best deal of the trip. Very close to the beach and boulevard as well as an excellent pizza place. Free wi-fi

Our unit was very spacious and, while we were only a couple, it could accommodate five people (it had a studio with a large double bed and a single bed and a separate room with two other single beds). The kitchenette had a large fridge, sink, hot plate, microwave oven and plenty of crockery and cutlery. The bathroom had a separate toilet, shower and hand basin. Everything was very clean. The motel is located within walking distance of Eastern Beach - one of the swimming beaches in New Plymouth, and the waterfront walk (a 'must' when you come to NP). It is on one of the main streets in town (but surprisingly quiet at night) about 20-25 minutes walk and 5 minutes drive from the centre of town. We stayed in a number of different motels while travelling around the south of the north island of NZ and this was the best.

Great place to stay, my grandson loves it, this is his 2nd stay with me. Clean, comfortable, close to town and beach, has everything you could want and the service and cleanliness is great. Towels changed daily, sheets changed regular, laundry available and clothes line so you may wash your own clothes. Staff so helpful and polite

We stayed at The Strand on Devon Motel in New Plymouth during the Rugby World Cup. Our group consisted of four guys looking for inexpensive accommodation in New Plymouth for the Wales / Namibia Rugby game.

All 8 units in this motel are on the ground level.

We found the Strand on Devon Motel online since it has its own website. Initially, we booked it because of its location, low price and it had four beds with a kitchen. In fact, it had a separate bedroom for one of the beds. There was a full kitchen with an eating area, fridge, stove, microwave and food preparation area. The bathroom is setup with the toilet, shower and a vanity with mirror, all separated.

The main living area has a pullout couch and two single beds along with some comfortable chairs and a wall mounted flat-screen TV. Being four guys, we had to look past the colour scheme for the interior of the unit (check the photos). The motel units are marketed as family units and you can see how a whole family could stay comfortably. There was also surface parking for each unit onsite.

The people who run operate this motel were very helpful and pleasant. Without asking, they immediately brought us another key when our 2nd group arrived.

This was a very clean and efficient place to stay for our group. The cost was very reasonable ($100 NZ) and it certainly was good value for the four of us. You just have to look past the colour scheme, but I imagine that some people might think the colours are okay.

I would definitely recommend this motel perhaps for a multi-day stay in New Plymouth.
