Drove up from Palmerston North during the week in the early part of February and tried a couple of motels that were recommended in trip advisor but all were booked out and could not provide a reason as to why they should be so busy. Finally booked into the Brougham Heights Motel which is situated in the middle of the main road leading North and the one leading South. Again, we had to take the last room available which was a two-bedroom suite even though there are only two of us. We thought we were lucky in that at least this had air-conditioning but then realised it was only for the lounge and kitchen area and there were no air-conditioners in either of the two bedrooms. We were in unit 12 and had to keep the curtains closed because the daytime sun really heated up the rooms and with the lack of air-conditioning, would have made them extremely hot at night. we then ran the air-conditioners all day to try and get the bedroom cool. The noise during the day from the traffic was quite loud but as we are out most of the day it did not seem to matter and it did drop down a lot at night but we kept the windows shut and the curtains drawn.
It was a surprise to have to pay for Internet access bearing in mind the cost of the room. Cleaning staff were good as were the management. Would probably stay somewhere away from the main traffic areas in future. Other alternatives seem to be things like the Quest Apartments and the Bellavista Motel, which like this Motel, still offer easy access to the central business area with shopping and restaurants everywhere.

Room Tip: not really sure how you can pick a room that gets you away from the traffic noise

I have stayed here a number of times for work trips to New Plymouth.

The rooms are well laid out, clean, comfortable with good facilities. There is Sky TV.

There are good breakfast options available (cooked, continental, porridge etc.) although they are a little on the high side in terms of price.

Located a couple of blocks from the waterfront, and down the road from a number of supermarkets, and takeaways as well as a few nice restaurants nearby.

Overall good "business" accommodation, although I am not sure I would recommend it for a romantic weekend away of a tourist's trip to Taranaki.

I stayed in June and in September during the RWC period.

We had not been to New Plymouth for quite some time and were recommended to stay at Brougham Heights. Good choice and a special thanks to Deborah and Mo for their first rate hospitality. The rooms were very well presented and the staff should be congratulated on their presentation.....well done ladies.
The one draw back was the Taranaki weather and now we can see why they have great cows and plenty of milk in this region. We did not see the mountain for the whole 6 days that we were there so some of the ancient myths about the mountain may seem true.

Brougham Heights is very well located close by the shopping centre and the great walks along the water front are recommended. We will return.

This is quite a nice motel.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was reasonably spacious. It had a nice tv and dvd player downstairs but the tv upstairs was old and tiny.
The water pressure in the shower was terrible (and that's coming from someone who has put up with water restrictions etc in Sydney)
Power in the room is controlled by the usual key in the slot. Normally that is fine because it turns off major appliance like tv, air conditioning etc. But this one turns off everything including the bedside clock!!!
My other gripe is charging for internet usage by the hour. This nearly made me choose somewhere else to stay.
I will say the main reason we stayed here was it's proximity to two excellent restaurants across the street. (Andre's and Table)

Thank you for reviewing Brougham Heights. Your comments are always welcome as sometimes we are not aware of things that guests notice. We were not aware there was a problem with the water pressure as this is the first comment we have received about this. I will get this looked into.
We realise the upstairs TV is only a 14" and this will be changed over the next few months, we need to upgrade our ariel to allow us to upgrade the size of the TV's.
Sorry about the alarm clock, the power saving keytags were installed long after the property was built so we were limited as to what we could control with them, however your comment is valid and we will look into a solution.
