“Great staff - great stay !”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

Me and my friends stayed in one of the serviced apartments at Victoria lodge for 4 nights in August 2012. We have been travelling around the world for the past three months and I have to say Alan and Pru were the friendliest hoteliers we have come across. They made us feel very welcome and had a good sense of humour ( especially when my friend got a little bit too drunk on his birthday ). The apartment itself was very nice. It had a nice well equipped lounge with a large LCD tv, DVD player and stereo. The kitchen was well equipped with oven, hob fridge etc. The bedrooms were also good with comfortable beds and a tv in each room.
The location is also good, located on a quiet street but close enough to the town centre to walk there.
I would recommend Victoria lodge to anyone looking for a spacious, well equipped apartment.

We travelled with 2 teenagers and stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment. Some good and some bad points, so was hard for me to choose a rating. Great set up with the bedrooms upstairs - our teenagers stayed in the room upstairs during the evening with us in the lounge - giving us all our own space. Very creaky steps though - so hard not to wake each other up in the morning. Motel is pet friendly so we took our small dog which was great - huge saving on kennel costs ! Carpet a little stained and an odd smell of fish in the room (not the normal Rotorua fragrance) which lingered our whole stay. We stayed in July - very cold outside but unit was lovely and warm. Owners have 2 black labradors which was evident on the sheets on the bed - oops.....black hairs everywhere. They were quite clearly clean and being a dog owner that didn't put me off too much, however perhaps a note to owners to keep laundry away from the dogs as not all visitors would feel this way. Friendly hosts and all up a good place to stay if you are looking for a pet friendly place with 2 bedrooms.

Room Tip: Apparently some rooms have a private spa? We weren't aware when booking so pays to check.

I have to agree with the other reviewers that the hosts are very friendly and informative. The rooms are clean and the hot tub does exist, works fine and is good..........but the Flamingo room is soooo small! Shared with Bro in law and just could not move or do anything without continually getting in each others way - ahhhhhh! To be fair I didn't see the other rooms so can't comment on them but if you are considering the Flamingo room there is better value for money elsewhere closer to town.

Had 2 nights here recently. On arrival the hosts recommended and booked an anniversary dinner location for us. They had brilliant local knowledge and were so helpful with any questions we had. Rooms were basic, but reasonably sized and among the cleanest I've stayed in. Shower sprays everywhere but outside spa/pool was brilliantly hot and meant the shower was just a rinse off. Bed was comfy and we both slept well. Easy walk to the shops and centrally located for most activities. For $90 a night I've yet to come across anything comparable.

Rooms are typical for the area but beds were comfortable and the small touches in the room really made it. Extra towels, coffee and french press all provided. The rooms all have outdoor hot mineral pools with privacy walls. You can lay in the warm water and look at the stars. Hosts Alan and Pru were very helpful in booking local activities.

Room Tip: Parking is a little awkward so anything bigger than a small 4 door might have to park on the street.

We really enjoyed our stay at Victoria Lodge. It's a simple, straightforward motel close to the heart of Rotorua - nothing over-fancy but well-managed, clean and comfortable with a friendly and helpful welcome from owner Alan. Just what we needed.
The room itself was not the biggest we enjoyed during our four and a half weeks touring New Zealand - but Pru and Alan had made good use of the limited space with a nice little table and chairs, good storage and a confy armchair alongside the large, firm, comfortable bed. Decor was simple but beautifully co-ordinated and the room was clean and nicely serviced every day - with the towels delicately folded in a little fan...a nice little touch showing the owners' extra attention to detail. The little open air thermal 'tub' - accessed through the bathroom - was a bonus but we failed to make use of it as we were so busy seeing the wonderful sights and sounds and enjoying the bars and restaurants in and around Rotorua. The price was good too compared to other accomodation we had elsewhere. We were disturbed on the first night by a young couple noisily using their outdoor hot tub to get all romantic under the stars at 2am...so please consider others and follow Alan and Pru's clear guidance not to use the facility before 10am or after 9pm! We would definitely stay at Victoria Lodge again and recommend it to others.
