The cultural demonstration/performance was worth the price. The other activities were worthwhile -- the waka, the glow worms, and fairy spring. Hangi demonstration and the hangi itself were okay.

So, do it once to get the experience.

I suspect it's easy for the performers in these types of culture shows to become boarded with the daily routine of the show but that is NOT the case at Mitai. The performers are proud of their culture and relish the opportunity to share it. I highly recommended evening of family friendly fun when in the Rotorua area.

I'd recommend an Maori experience at the Mitai Maori Village! It will give you a warm and interesting insight into their culture in a 'panto' (pantomime) themed way. However, if you're looking for a genuine, rustic experience, this may not be for you. This is a tourist attraction which is aimed to suit a wide audience. When I visited, my particular highlight was watching the ceremony before we ate. The ''Haka'' brought shivers down my spine! The food was average - nothing adventurous and the host, while funny at times, was offensive to certain members of the audience (borderline racist jokes). After eating we were taken to see the glow worms which was a slight disappoint due to the lack of them! Nonetheless, I genuinely would recommend this fun filled evening out.

Every single staff person was courteous and welcoming. John (the MC) is extremely impressive in his knowledge of different languages...and has perfect comedic timing and wit! He transformed a group of strangers into a large family. He was truthful, insightful, and diplomatic answering all questions. The waca arrival really set the mood and helped transport visitors back in time. The cultural performance was educational, interesting, and entertaining. Definitely a must-do when in town!

We booked for this show and it was a great decision. The tour was educational, humorous and very entertaining. The staff were really great and answered any and all questions. My 3 yo daughter was kept interested throughout (although dinner was a little late for her).
I would recommend this to any visitors to Rotorua.
