This evening gave a good insight into ancient Maori culture. As dusk fell we walked down a track into the woods with atmospheric music playing and as we waited a canoe complete with warriors glided down the stream giving a taster of what was to come. We progressed into the village where we were audience to a stunning performance of the Haki war dance plus other traditional dances.

After the entertainment we sat down to a Hangi feast which is cooked under the ground. The food was of a high standard and optional drinks were reasonably priced.

A very enjoyable evening and good value for money.

We had one of the best evenings of our trip to NZ. We were collected by a coach from our hotel and even before you step onto the coach you are met by a very friendly tour guide in native Mauri costume who then proceeded to teach us some of the Mauri language which broke the Ice nicely. The evening starts by locating your table for the evening in the marquee. Then in groups you are taken outside to see the pits where your authentic Hangi meal has been cooking all day and you get to have a photo opportunity. You are then taken down through woodland to the river where you get a fantastic view of the Mauri warriers paddling in their native boat down the river singing and shouting. Then it is back for dinner which was so very tasty, the lamb just melted in your mouth, plenty of choice and loads of it. You purchase your drinks at a small bar. The desserts were very nice too. It is a help yourself and believe me you are tempted to keep helping yourself because it all tastes so nice. After dinner when it is dark you are taken in groups with the aid of torches to see the glow worms back into the woodland area. This was a magical evening and I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have an authentic Mauri evening.

A bit expensive evening and quite efficient from a marketing point of view. Good way for visitors to learn about traditional Maori life. Enjoyed the food (Hangi meal) - actually it was delicious, the smoked potatoes are awesome. Get to see some glow-worms and my brother ended up singing in front of an audience to the Maori tribal chief!

We went to the hangi here and enjoyed our experience. The Maori show was very informative and we learded alot about their culture. The buffet was good as well with lots of vegetable, lamb, chicken, and desserts.

great insight into the Maori culture, witnessing the glowworms, watching the arrival of the warriors, the haka dance, understanding the Hangi Meal - finally the walk on the rainbow springs. Fantastic evening :)

Us being vegetarians had fairly decent options in the hangi meal & the deserts were fantastic :)
