These thermal pools are a short drive out of Rotorua. We went one weekday morning and they were not at all crowded. They are obviously used by locals as well as tourists. There is a choice of pools at different temperatures to relax in. You don't come here to swim but just to sit around and enjoy the experience of bathing in warm thermal waters in a lovely natural environment. The changing facilities are very basic but adequate and the cafe provides essential refreshments, although you can take your own picnic and use the tables provided. The entrance price was very reasonable.

Some way south of Roturua these pools were surprisingly good. Just $15 each, there is a choice of different pools fed by real geyser activity.
Three relaxation pools and a shallow 'swimming pool'.
We'd had enough after about an hour.
Cafe poor.
There's a small Nature Walk which takes you upstream towards the source and when the steam's not too thick you can get good photos.

Nice little site with a big swimming pool and various other pools and tubs of different temperatures.
Definitly do the Eco walk and see where hot water comes from. It's worth to book a private pool.

We spent the night with our camper van at Waikite. The great thing is that the camping fee includes unlimited access to the pools during your stay. When we first dipped in the pools in the evening after arriving the pools were quite dirty already from being in use all day. The pools get emptied every night and refilled with fresh water, so when we came back in the morning the water was crystal clear, the pools were quiet, and it was complete serenity. That's when you want to enjoy these pools.

As other reviewers have noted, the eco-walk is a complete must! Walking up the valley only takes a few minutes, but the sight of the hot spring spitting out boiling spring water is UNREAL!

..and relax.. Fabulous natural ego-thermal pools set in beautiful natural surroundings..emptied every day for maximum water quality & cleanliness.. Changing rooms are quite basic, but functional..there are lockers available or cubby holes to stash gear if you're not bothered about it being locked..there's also a nice little cafe & plenty of places to sit poolside with your picnic..
