This was a thouroughly enjoyable stop and well worth the drive south from Rotorua or north from Taupo. For a modest fee, you get a set of six tranquil pools fed from a natural hot spring (and no sulfur smell). There is also a lovely short walk to the spring that feeds the pools (definitely recommended). There are three beautifully landscaped soaking pools with areas of shade and sun, and two small hot-tub sized pools I presume must be meant for cooling off. Then there is one larger splashing pool at warm bathtub temperature for kids and those who want a swim. I loved the tranquil pools where you could look out over the ferns and other plants as the mist rises above them. The kids are welcome in any of them, as long as they respect the areas that are supposed to be quiet and restful. The day we went, the soaking pools were running a bit cool according to locals (barely hot bathtub level). Someone went over to the front desk and they soon adjusted the flow to run hotter. The pools are kept nicely clean. However, it is fed from natural springs, so there is a modest amount of algae and a small amount of floating debris.
