This was a thouroughly enjoyable stop and well worth the drive south from Rotorua or north from Taupo. For a modest fee, you get a set of six tranquil pools fed from a natural hot spring (and no sulfur smell). There is also a lovely short walk to the spring that feeds the pools (definitely recommended). There are three beautifully landscaped soaking pools with areas of shade and sun, and two small hot-tub sized pools I presume must be meant for cooling off. Then there is one larger splashing pool at warm bathtub temperature for kids and those who want a swim. I loved the tranquil pools where you could look out over the ferns and other plants as the mist rises above them. The kids are welcome in any of them, as long as they respect the areas that are supposed to be quiet and restful. The day we went, the soaking pools were running a bit cool according to locals (barely hot bathtub level). Someone went over to the front desk and they soon adjusted the flow to run hotter. The pools are kept nicely clean. However, it is fed from natural springs, so there is a modest amount of algae and a small amount of floating debris.

This small pool complex is a hidden gem. A few minutes off the main road leads you to one of the best maintained pools in NZ. The water is clean and clear and there are varying temperatures. It is well worth the drive to have a relaxing soak in the Waikite Valley.

This complex had been reccommended to us so thought we would take a look. What a lovely place. We went mid morning and it was so quiet and peaceful. We had a pool to ourselves for the morning which was lovely. The setting is fantastic and well worth the drive to get to the valley. The pools got a bit busier in the afternoon but sitting with a lovely wine and watching the views was extremelly pleasent. Great for children with two large pools suitable for any age and private pools for thise who want some privacy. A short walk away is a geyser and hot bubbling pool with lots of history- amazing to watch.
Should definately be on the 'to do'list.

After reading all the mixed reviews for the Polynesian Spa I thought it was worth the extra travel to Waikite Vallley Thermal Pools, especially as we were a combined group of three young families.

We were not disappointed, upon arrival at 6.30pm we were greated with great plumes of steam rising from the pools & everyone couldn't wait to start soaking. There were six pools of various size & temperature on offer & we had a soak in all of them. My only complaint was that all the pools were of similar temperature, so a variation in temps would of been good, with one being especially hot.

All in all though well worth a visit, my family really enjoyed it.
