“motorhome camp site with added spa”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Friends from Rotarua recommended this place as an overnight stop over, & it's pretty fair to say that we were not disappointed, campers being allowed to used the thermal pools once the place is closed to the general public, so basically we had the place to ourselves until 9pm & from 6am until opening time.

“Brilliant outdoor geothermal spa in natural surroundings”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

We visited the Waikite Valley Thermal Pools on our way back from Orakei Korako Thermal Park to Rotorua.

Waikite Valley is situated a bit of the beaten track but that only adds to its attraction as it does not attract too many people.

Fantastic outdoor spa fed by the Te Manaroa Spring which is the largest single source of boiling geothermal water in New Zealand. Located in the middle of a valley surround by lush thick green vegetation.

There are 10 pools, 6 public and 4 private with temperatures from 32c to 40c. There is a large pool to swim in, with an adjoining kids area which they can jump into and play in and 5 passive pools where you can just relax and chill.

The pools are emptied every night and are constantly being refreshed with pure natural geothermal boiling water directly from the spring.

In the private pools you can alter the temperature yourself, by letting in more boiling water from the spring or cold water.

Good size changing area and lockers.

Friendly welcoming staff and there is a lovely little Cafe and seating area.

You can also take a short walk (5 minutes) to the source of the spring and see the gushing boiling water bubbling out of the ground and then flowing down into the valley in a cloud of swirling steam.

If you are looking for an authentic outdoor mineral spa then this is a definitely the place to visit.

“Aaaaaah! Enjoy a relax!”

Great place to bathe in crystal clear non sulfur mineral water. If you can, go mid to late afternoon.....not crowded and you can save by just going for the public baths....we one pool all to ourselves.

“Nice, off the beaten track”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Quite a nice place with local feel. It clearly has the vibes of a place for locals where tourists are welcome but are not prioritized in any way. We tried the private spa and it was quite ok, overlooking the surrounding hills. I enjoyed enormously the not-touristy feel.

“A Nice Way to Spend an Afternoon”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

We spent the afternoon at Waikite Valley Thermal Pools after spending a morning hiking around the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland. It was a great place to soak and relax. This appears to be a stop that is a bit off of the beaten path and so it was really quiet and free from the crowds that we saw at other destinations.
