“Weekend Saver.”
Reviewed November 11, 2010

I often say to people. Why pay top dollar for a room you should be not spending time in it anyway. You should be out experiencing the area. In this case however the weekend we chose to visit rotorua must have been one of the wettest in its history. It basically poured with torrential rain non stop from Friday til Monday. As such most of Rotorua's attractions were out so we had to spend a disproportionate amount of time in the room.

Happily in this case the room was pretty good. The room is standard in most ways having a separate bedroom and lounge area. A small but functional kitchen and a bathroom with a shower over. Overall the room was clean and tidy and reasonably modern It had a good sized LCD screen with a good selection of channels. There is a DVD player and the lend DVD at reception. Didn't do this so can't comment on the selection. The room package came with a breakfast which was standard fare but tasty enough and delivered to the room on time each morning.

The real star thou of this particular room was it has a enclosed/private courtyard with it's own private spa pool. The pool you fill yourself with hot or cold so you can set the temp was just fantastic on a weekend like this and we used it a lot. The only criticism is it has a sunshades over the top which was only like 95% waterproof which meant under this weekends torrent it was dripping through which made reading difficult and the water was a little cold. A minor thing.

I believe the rate including breakfast for 2 was $130 per night. So this was pretty good

Overall a great stay. Whilst the weather ruined the plans for the weekend. In the end it was a relaxing soak in the spa for most of it which was pretty good.

Glad we picked this place. If the price is right we will be back

Although name didn't inspire me, I booked this motel for two nights after reading Tripadvisor eviews and was pleased with the choice. Our room was great- good size, comfortable and quiet. The staff were extremely helpful and really went out of the way to help us after we got caught in a deluge! Negatives were that walk into town was 15 mins and rather uninspiring, car parking might be a problem when motel is full (didn't appear that spaces equalled rooms).

This was a good place to stay, but not exceptional. We had a one bedroom apartment which had a hot tub in the courtyard. This was good fun, even though the smells of Rotorua can be pretty strong!
The rooms were a reasonable size and the furnishings adequate. We intended self-catering and found the kitchen area a bit limiting
Excellent location for visiting Rotorua and surrounds

My husband and I stayed at the Executive on Fenton, Rotorua for four nights to celebrate his 50th birthday. We had a excellent stay. The motel was in a great location, 10 minutes to the shopping centre. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which featured a courtyard and spa pool. The spa pool was excellent and it was great to relax in it at the end of the day. Our room was clean, tidy and very modern. Our hosts Jenny & Denis were very helpful and made us very welcome. We would definitely recommend this motel to anyone who wants to stay in Rotorua.

Room was a bit small and dated and unfortunately permeated by a strong egg sulphur smell - I think it was coming from the thermal heating in the room. You do get used to the smell of sulphur in Rotorua, unfortunately, though, the smell was stronger inside the room than it was outside. Basic bathroom with regular sized bath tub spa. Bathroom had no heating so it was quite cold. Basic kitchen facilities - it had a microwave but no cooktop.
Great managers with good information about activities in and around Rotorua. It was okay for a cheap overnight stay - but too smelly to stay any longer.

Upon arrival I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The checking in and out process was quick and easy. We stayed in an "Executive Studio" that featured a double size spa bath and seperate shower (good size and great water pressure). We found the room to be spotless and neat.

The location is great, only about 15min walk to the CBD, or about 5min drive to the restaurants. However because of the central location on Fenton Street, you do get a smell of sulphur wafting into the room.

The only negative for me was the poor quality small TV in the room. There is free SKY TV access (great for when it's raining), and for a motel that markets itself as Executive, I was expecting a larger flat screen LCD.

We stayed at Executive on Fenton for 3 nights while we explored Rotorua. This motel is very well kept and rooms are nice. We stayed in a king studio room which was nice and clean. The only minor downside was that the bathroom was quite cold though we did have a double spa bath. The spa bath was nice but you probably won't bother using it after you've tried out the private double baths at the polynesian spa's which are absolutely amazing!! If I was to go again I think I wouldn't bother with the double spa bath and just head straight to the polynesian spa. The owners were very helpful and provided us with DVD's (for free).
Things to do in the area include Mountain biking in the nearby forest..great crack if you're a complete beginner or more experienced rider as they're graded for level of difficulty on the map. We just rented bikes from the Outdoorsman Headquarters and rode the 5 min journey to the forest and then began a horrible climb but once your up there you can bike the tracks for a couple of hrs without too much hassle. Luging at the Gondola is also a bit of fun.. We also took a trip to the Wai-O-Tapu where the geyser blows every morning at 10ish..worth a look around the grounds to see the hot pools. Our big highlight was the private double spa at the polynesian spa - we went 2 days in a row. Its especially nice when its cold and dark and even raining when your bathing in lovely hot water overlooking the lake - spectacular! Amazing Thai was a great place to eat (really reasonable prices) and I'm usually dubious of the standard of some Asian restuarants. For a really fantastic steak head to Bistro 1284..the best steak I think I've ever had but bring your wallet. For breakfasts you can't beat Capers Cafe..
