Heather and Mike provide a wonderful stay in their home, sharing their lifesyle, artworks, and delicious pre-dinner snacks and drinks in a beautiful setting on Lake Rotorua. Their lodge is away from the city noise and traffic, and is very comfortable and spacious. They provided more amenities than any lodge, B and B, or hotel we have ever stayed in. More importantly, we enjoyed our conversations about their lives, the area, the Rotorua Museum, and world topics.

Thank you Ron. Maybe you will come back again one day, twice to NZ may not be enough :)
We'd love to have you stay again.

Heather and Mike Johnson have made Nicara Lakeside Lodge to a place where you feel home, where you are treated as a very welcome guest and they are very friendly hosts. A perfect place from where you can explore Rotorua. If it is sunny and warm: have breakfast in the garden! It will make your day.

It was for sure a home coming experience. The lodge is situated right next to the Rotorua Lake with a magnifcant view from our room. The entire lodge is nicely decorated with a very cozy ambient. Heather and Mike were great hosts, genuine, warm, hospital and great to be around. There is no extra charge for just about everything offered, including beverage in the frig, wireless internet, breakfast personally prepared and served by Heather and Mike, and afternoon wine with delicious munchies. They also do your laundry for free (no iroining of course). Mike offered great tips on how to tour the surrounding area as well as the close-by spots. They have disount coupons for all of the tourist destinations too.

We look forward to or next stay and will highly recommend to our friends.

Our room at Nicaragua Lodge looked straight out onto Lake Roturua .it was large ,light and very comfortable. Breakfast was great with fresh fruit and homemade yogurt and muesli, not to mention Kiwi juice and New Zealand Breakfast tea!
Heather and Mike were great hosts and very knowledgable about everything in the area.It certainly enhanced our visit
We loved relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine and homemade nibbles in a very friendly house.
I must mention that Heather so kindly offered to do some washing for us ,which was a Godsend .
A great place to stay, thoroughly recommended.

From the warm welcome, lakeside splendour, relaxing environment and gracious hospitality, Nicara lodge was an ideal place to stay whilst attending a conference in Rotorua. Heather and Mike have a wealth of knowledge and entusiasm for the spendours of the Rotorua area and enjoy sharing this with their guests. As a Kiwi, this visit re-ignigted a desire to come back with my wife as visitors, to experience Rotorua and Nicara Lodge.

Thanks Ian, and I do hope you will return with you family. It's great when Kiwis visit Rotorua and realise everything we have to offer. We have become a tourist (domestic & international) mecca.

My husband and I stayed at Nicara lodge over the long weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed our time there though it was short. We stayed in one of the guest rooms called 'Parson's Glory' with a beautiful view of the lake and jetty from one of our windows. Heather and Mike were enthusiastic and very informative, so if you had no set activities coming to Rotorua, no worries - they'll help you out with an itinerary. Best thing was the location as it was close to a lot of the main attractions.
