“Best breakfasts of our trip”
Reviewed March 5, 2012

Heather and Mike gave us a great welcome and lovely start to our trip round New Zealand. The canapes and drinks before we went out in the evening were delicious and made for a very sociable start with Mike giving us some excellent printed instructions about what to do in Rotorua. At all times they made sure we were having a good stay and even gave us vouchers for my brother and his son (who were staying elsewhere) to attend a number of activities. The breakfast was extra special with a different cooked dish by Heather in addition to the cereals, fruit and juices. Heather aslo did my laundry for me while we were out for the day which was an enormous help. We thoroughly recommend Nicara lodge for a very special stay.

We stayed at Nicara Lodge after a drive from the Coromandel. One of the first thing that struck us about Nicara lodge was the fantastic location. The views over the lake are stunning and the lodge itself is exquisite. The lodge is stunning from the outside and inside the blend of elegant and contemporary design and homely touches made us feel prefectly at ease. ( some of the sculptures inside are incredible)
We couldn't have asked for more in our hosts Heather and Michael, who not only helped us plan our itinerary to get the most out of our brief time in Rotorua ( the Mauri evening is well worth a visit and one of the parts of our holiday we thoroughly enjoyed), but also Heather's culinary skills were very much appreciated. Beautiful breakfasts , fresh fruit, homemade yoghurts and muesli and croissants are a perfect start to a day exploring Waikato. And after a days exploring more home made canapes and drinks on the decking are a perfect way to relax.
The rooms are beautiful, and unsurpisingly the attention to detail continues with sweets, drinks and luxurious toiletries.
My husband and I can not recomment this lodge highly enough, and should we brave the 28 hour journey back to New Zealand it will be one of the first places we return to.

Hi Dilip & Sharon, we so enjoyed your stay with us and hope you will return one day. As we dive into winter and crisp frosty mornings, I hope your days are warm and full of spring colour. Heather

The bed was so comfortable I slept for 10 hours. The house was impeccably clean, I felt I could really relax.

This B&B is absolutely fabulous. We have been traveling a lot, in different countries, but the quality in Nicara Lodge is the highest we have ever seen. The location is great, directly near the Lake of Rotorua, but also the rooms are of high quality. Furthermore, the hosts, Mike and Heather are very friendly and helped us where ever necessary. We even went kaiaking with their kaiaks and on Christmas eve, they invited us to join them in church and to have BBQ. Really friendly people here. We have enjoyed our stay very much!

Room Tip: lake-view is wonderful

Thank-you so much Heather and Mike! You welcomed us into your gorgeous B and B and made our journey from so far immediately seem like we had arrived back home. Your kindness and generosity are unsurpassed from all of the many places we have stayed around the world. We recommend that anyone who is staying in the Rotorua area put this first on the wish list of accommodation. If there is room, you are getting the best of the best! The most welcoming hosts, gorgeous vistas, fabulous room, delightful bed, and all the amenities you could ever need! A true home away from home!

We were welcomed more warmly than we could have hoped, with evening aperitifs served in the lounge by our very helpful hosts. The views across the lake were stunning, with swans in the evening and flocks of birds flying across in the morning. The room was spacious and also had beautiful views of the lake. Breakfast was delicious. All in all, we had a short but very memorable stay.

Nicara Lodge was a recommendation and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It’s a beautiful house overlooking Lake Rotorua, it even has it’s own beach by the lake – that’s how close it is! Luckily it’s just far enough from Rotorua centre so that the stay isn’t ruined by ‘that smell’ either!

The ensuite rooms are huge and extremely comfortable and the breakfasts are tasty, it’s not just traditional British cooked breakfasts and the only place where I have tasted kiwi juice too!

Thanks Heather, Mike and Nikki for a lovely and relaxing stay.
