“Decor out of date, but Holiday House was spacious and comfortable”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Two couples in the Holiday House, arrived 8th Jan 2013 for two nights. Although the decor was decades out of date, the house was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed with more than enough tea & coffee, but the milk in the fridge had gone off the next day. A very nice surprise was the washing machine -- which we were happy to use! We would have preferred one bathroom per couple, but at that price we managed :-)

Sandi and her family were very friendly & helpful, even providing us with discounted tickets to nearby Wai-O-Tapu and good advice on Rotorua's "Eat Street" restaurants.

Weather you are local, from out of Town or travelling Internationally, it's hard to beat the genuine Kiwi hospitality extended by Mark & Sandi and family when visiting the Cultural Capital of New Zealand that is Rotorua. Put your feet up on arrival and relax by the poolside and view the garden and all it's splendor, eat at the hosts table for lunch and dinner and converse with the Sandi's and Mark's daughters who deliver the breakfasts right to your bedside with a welcoming smile, and they are quality Continental Breakfasts to die for.
Catch a Trout in the nearby Lake Rotorua or a feeder stream and Mark will Smoke it for you or Sandi will prepare it just right and grill it in the oven, There is 2 luxury stand alone fully serviced rooms which blend seamlessly into the garden and pool landscape and a Full Sized 3 bedroom Cottage on the same property for the family visitors to enjoy. I have stayed here on 4 occasions and highly recommend this valued contribution to tourism in Rotorua New Zealand.

See you soon Mark & Sandi,
Warmest regards,

Rick

1 night stay during 4 week travel, Sandi was the perfect host.
We (2 couples) stayed in the 3 bedroom guesthouse.
Very spacy, comfy beds and big living area.
We saw the couple cottages, which look new and very nice as well.
Try Sandi´s special for breakfast, you are gonna love it.
No way you can copy that ;-)
Sandi will give you all rinfo necessary to explore Rotorua, no need to prepare.

Thanks for a great stay!

Room Tip: Guest house with 3 bedroom

We were stopping in Rotorua for one night and didn't have a reservation. The I-site seemed frantic and geared more for back-packers, groups, and tours, so we decided to turnaround and check out Sandi's after we saw the sign, even though Fairy Springs Rd seemed busy and noisy. What a wonderful surprise! Sandi was cheerful and helpful, the room was in a self-contained unit in the back, and there was off-street parking on the side street. The room was attractive and comfortable, and we were delighted with Sandi's special cooked breakfast that she brought to our room in the morning. The entire experience was enhanced by being treated like new friends instead of customers - Sandi asked what we liked and gave us perfect recommendations of an excellent Thai restaurant, the Rotorua Museum, and an informative Maori village visit the next day, all of which she pointed out for us on a map. The location was ideal for returning to Rainbow Springs for the evening kiwi-viewing, within easy driving distance for dinner in town, and convenient for travel in and out of the area. It was also north of the geothermal sulphur fumes. We paid a little more than we are used to, but the hostess with her tourism tips and hearty breakfast saved us money in the end.

Room Tip: We loved our room, and the other guests we met here seemed equally satisfied.

We stayed in the holiday home which is adjacent to the B&B. This is a 3 bedroom house and was ideal for our family of 4. Sandi is the perfect hostess and made us very comfortable throughout our stay. The rooms are comfortable and we were glad of the heating which made the living room pleasant. Sandi was also helpful in coordinating with the various tour operators for us. The house being a little set back from the road was good as we were away from the traffic noise. The breakfast was good and substantial. A negative was the single bathroom in the house when we would have prefered two. It is also not walking distance to the town centre, but with a car, that was not a problem.

We drove into Rotorua late and happened to drive past Sandi's. Were glad we decided to give her a ring and stayed for 2 nights. Once decided on the rooms, she was quick to help warm up the room while we get our bags.

Coming from the tropics, we increased the air conditioning to 27deg that night. Only to realise it had caused the power to trip for 3 times.. Kept telling us she felt sorry, but I think we know better :P

Breakfast was served to us in our bedroom, and she even noticed one of us skipped the tomatoes :) She also volunteered to book us in for the Maori dinner that evening, providing helpful tips around the area. Her place is also well situated, minutes drive to the attractions.

Great host, definitely recommended. Oh, and her blue house stood out along the road too!

What fantastic people Sandi and Mark are - my 13 year old granddaughter would have liked to transport 'Sandi's' to all our NZ destinations - and even after a 3 week stay at a variety of places Sandi's was still top of the list of best places to stay - by a mile. The accomodation was fantastic - we were upgraded to the 3 bedroom bungalow - and breakfast was super. I had never written a Trip Advisor review before but the quality of this service made me want to do so. thank you Sandi and Mark.

PS when I tried to e-mail prior to booking the link did not work my granddaughter sorted this out for me by going in via Firefox as internet explorer did not like the link - so glad she did this because meeting these two lovely people made our stay in NZ
