If you’re around Rotorua, this is a gotta do-er.

We came to Te Puia on a short road trip not knowing quite what to expect... and what we found was even better! With fern-forested paths, rope bridges, bubbling pools, and the biggest geyser in New Zealand (Pōhutu) this valley is a hotspot of natural beauty.

The park is maintained by the people of Te Arawa so you get to see authentic snapshots of Māori culture as well: history, gods and legends, buildings, and hot hot hot traditional geyser-cooking. We even got to see a lovely little kiwi bumbling his way around in the quiet darkness of the kiwi house.

The breathtaking views and vignettes of traditional life made this a truly memorable afternoon out. My only regret is that we didn’t have time to stay later and enjoy the Māori evening experiences! Next time...

Amazing Steambox Tour

Amazing food and tour, it was rainy and off season so there was one other person. Tour guide still put in the effort and was informative and passionate.

Sounds like you had an enjoyable afternoon with our steam box experience. Our guided tours are very informative and I would recommend this for someone who doesn’t know much about Rotorua and Te Puia we have very informative tours about the culture and heritage of Rotorua and the tribes that occupied the lands to this very day.
The steam box option adds an exciting and interesting new experience for visitors who get to sample food they’ve chosen and seasoned themselves, cooked in a completely traditional way. It gives them a realistic taste of how things were done in the valley, many years ago.

Pataka Kai - 5 star degustation!

A new restaurant opened on the gorgeous Te Puia site - offering a super 7 course degustation with superb matching wines!
My only recommendations would be that
The room is too large and could be sectioned to create a sense of intimacy
And offer a reduced menu of 5 courses?
Get the restaurant up on TripAdvisor for foodies to find!

In reality this is an 8 course menu exploring the vibrant freshness of New Zealand. The first serving is Maori fry bread and buns with a heavenly dipping sauce created with chilli and puha - my advice is to share one piece or risk ending up in a food coma.

Each course is delivered at a good pace (we finished a little under the 3 hour mark), clean presentation with succulent food offerings. I can’t remark on dessert because I could not squeeze even one more mouthful in.

Highly, highly recommend!

GReat dinner, great cultural experience and awesome tour!!

Review of: Te Puia Day Pass & Evening Cultural Experience

When we were here 6 years ago we came to Te Puia and the experience was nice, but ruined by big tour groups. On this return trip we decided to give them another chance and we're glad we did - everything that was great about the experience they kept, all the problems have been fixed.
They are much better at crowd control that we always felt we were just part of a smaller group. Everything went smoothly, and the experience was amazing, from walking the area at the beginning of the evening and seeing the kiwi house, to the Maori greeting and then the show (what fun!!), and wow - what a dinner!! Their menu has really expanded and I'm glad I didn't eat all day so I could fully enjoy everything. They even had good crowd control at the buffet so we never felt rushed or had to wait a long time.
And, to top it all off, they put us in trams at the end, take us to the thermal areas again, to see it in the dark and have hot chocolate. What a perfect evening!!

With the buffet being a cherry on the top of the cake and seeing the Pohutu geyser erupt at night under a set of lights is absolutely stunning.

Went here twice! A must!

I got the chance to visit here twice. One day and one night. A great experience. Don't miss the traditional performance and the guided tour. The geysers are just lovely!
