Owner description: Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of town. We are home to the world famous Pohutu geyser, to mud pools, hot springs, to silica formations to the Kiwi bird and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone and bone carving. We have shared these treasures with manuhiri (visitors) for 170 years and proudly continue that legacy today.

This place was entertaining and interesting. We did the Te Po experience. The people were nice enough and we learned a lot. At the wood carving and weaving schools there was no one working, so there was nothing to see. We loved seeing the kiwi bird. The show was just ok - very touristy. The meal was fine.

We spent half a day here and watched the cultural show that was good and interesting. A bit more explanation/translation on what was being said would have been good/informative. We then did a walk around the site to the geyser. We waited and waited for the geyser and wish we'd explored the grounds more and then just gone back to it once it was going. We then saw 2 very active kiwi birds, which was fantastic. Def recommend visiting here.

I visited te Puia on a Great Sights coach tour and found this to be my favourite stop of the day. With a little something for everyone, I feel that this is a must do for anyone visiting the region.

There was the environmental component - with the beautiful surrounds, geothermal areas and geysers. I would have loved to be able to spend more time exploring the trails around this area. And, of course, the kiwi enclosure!!

We were treated to a Maori cultural performance that included just the right amount of audience participation. te Puia houses schools of traditional Maori carving and weaving which we were free to look around and ask questions about. Our guide gave us great insights into the region's history, culture, and customs.

There was devided two place. One is Maori's village and the other was intermittent spring area. There was a performance about Maori in Maori's house. We enjoy Maori's song and experience. And we ate Maori's food. After enjoying Maori's culture, we went to intermittent spring area. Surprising.. There was a wonderful volcanic spring.. Good experience.

We spent the late afternoon and evening here and were treated to a Luau type Mauri meal. It was served buffet style. All of the food was excellent. In addition we enjoyed a Mauri show that gave us a very good introduction to Mauri culture. The volcanic areas are not as extensive as other areas but the show and the meals were worthwhile.
