“Excellent boutique hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2010

We had read all the great reviews on here before we booked, and I can only say that the hotel exceeded our expectations. Firstly, yes there was building work on site (which when it is finished in the next weeks, will make this place unbelievable), but if you are in Rotorua to sit in your room between 8 - 3 then you will have missed out anyway, and we were not inconvenienced in the slightest by the noise, although we had appartment 7 next to the site.

To start with, Darren and Brent were fantastic hosts, Darren in particular going out of his way to make the stay as perfect as he could. His reccommendations for restaurants was spot on, and we had some of the best meals of our trip while there. Nothing was too much trouble, and his advice and the speed with which he managed to book us any trips we wanted was second to none. The location was excellent too, with all the main restaurants within a minute's walk, the lake just 5 minutes down the road, and the main spas within walking distance too. Finally, the rooms were spotless, they looked stunning, with plasmas in lounge and bedroom, walk in showers, large baths, comfy beds and chic furnishings to finish it off. When the work is finished on the hotel, there will also be a pool which will really add further value to a terrific hotel.

Thanks again to the Regent for a fantastic stay while on our honeymoon and I would reccommend this hotel wholeheartedly over the bigger chain hotels in Rotorua.

We have just returned from our 4th visit to this awesome motel and as usual, everthing was perfect. Darryn & Brent, the hosts. were amazing like always. so friendly and helpful, which makes your stay, that little bit special and relaxed. The Regent is so handy, situated within walking distance to restaurants, bars, the lake, thermal areas, shops, the hot baths, gardens & the museum. The rooms are unique, the decor is black & white, which is absolutely stunning. The bathrooms are spacious & modern, with excellent toiletries and the bedding is of the highest quality, no expense spared. This 5 star luxury motel, would have to be the best accommodation to stay in at Rotorua. I promise you, you will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here. it is just an awesome place!!!

5 star all the way!
great location, clean rooms, the place offers everything you need and more!

i saved lots of money by staying there just because the staff gave me great advice and really took care off all the arrangments. i've stayed at 4/5 star hotels before and never had that kind of service.
with so many places to stay in Rotorua it's hard to decide but i would not stay anywhere else! Highly recomend it!

The first view is of a building site at the moment but a very friendly welcome from Buddy in the temporary reception - making sure we had all the information we needed for our stay in Rotorua and personally taking us to our room - made us pleased we had chosen the Regent. I hadn't realised that there is no restaurant on site (there will be one once the works are finished) - no worry, you are one minute's walk from the main strip of eateries. Until there is a restaurant serving breakfast on-site (& maybe after) I suggest Fat Dog just around the corner.

By the way, working hours on the new building are restricted - you won't be disturbed.

The Regent of Rotorua had the best service! Prior to arriving, we asked if they could book us for a Hangi Dinner and within 5 minutes Darren emailed, "Consider it Done!" You gotta love that!

Upon arrival, (I forget his name, I feel so terrible because we spoke to him so often and he was super helpful - lets just call him Nice Manager), Nice Manager greeted us and reminded us about our Hangi transport pick up in 20 minutes. He was so concerned about us making it and was already thinking of alternatives if we arrived too late. Super helpful guy!

The room was unique and a bit daring with its all white furniture and flooring. It looks wonderful now, I hope it stays white through the years. Complete with bathtub and shower, a modern kitchenette and trendy furniture, two large flat screen TVs, the room was a delight to be in. My only feedback would be the toilet area. It is located at the end of the long, skinny bathroom and as far as possible from the bedroom. In the middle of the night, trying to sleepily walk around the glass table and all the way to the toilet was a challenge. Also, the floor in the bathroom becomes a little wet from the shower spray. But all in all, the room was pretty great and comfy!

The hotel is currently under construction and will soon have more rooms, a spa, restaurant and lounge/bar area. It will be sweet once all that is complete. For now though, the view is 100% construction. And privacy is a bit of a problem since the only windows look out to the walkway. You need to close your curtains if you don't want people to see in. Even when the construction is complete though, you will have no view to anything except for the street and hotel, but other than the lake area, the town of Rotorua doesn't have that many views anyways.

The hotel is in walking distance to all of Rotorua's town and lake area. There are plenty of nice restaurants and cafes. Nice Manager (maybe his name is Cliff?) was great for restaurant recommendations. He had really good taste too. One can tell by the room decor.

We really enjoyed these restaurants:
Indian Star
Lime Caffeteria

Activities:
-Luge - sounds corny, but actually super fun. On the advanced run, you literally catch air!
-Mountain Biking the Redwood Forest - AWESOME! Amazing park with runs called, "Rude not to" and other catchy names.
-Hangi - we did Mitai Hangi. Food was only so-so but the performance was cool!
-White Water Rafting - there are great rivers in this area. We did the Grade 5 Wairoa River. It was a bit hardcore. Kaituna is shorter and less intense.

Really nice room, with great decor. No view. You shouldnt judge this place by the outside. Bathroom could do with some underfloor heating as it was cold. Modern and lovely. Close to food and bars. Very helpful staff. A great place. Please note that the score is in comparison to 14 other hotels/B&Bs we stayed in during a 3 week trip to NZ

On arrival at the hotel, I have to say we were a little worried as it is a 1950's 2 storey concrete block, don't get me wrong there has been a lot of work done and the outside does look good but we were worried because it is a motel style. These worries were very quickly dispelled. At the moment as a new block is getting built (this wasn't an issue as no noise or mess) you currently checkin using the backpackers reception. The rooms were fantasitc, lovely decor with a massive bathroom, we had a 1 bedroom suite and it was well work the small premium. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the town centre and about a 5 minute walk to Lake Rotorua so it was a fantasic location. There was loads to do in Rotorua and I have to recommend the following, the Polynesian Spa, The duck tour and The Skyline Skyrides the luges was fab. This was a great litlle hotel which I would fully recommend.
