We enjoyed our short stay in Rotorua. The Regent staff were great and helped us book some sightseeing. We could only stay one night as we were off to taupo the next morning.
Hope to get back one day.

In a word, wow! We drove by this place and from the initial looks of it, thought it was closed down...but upon further discovery confirmed the opposite. The owner is absolutely delightful. And the rooms are, hands down, the nicest (in terms of decor) we've stayed in while New Zealand. The rooms are very retro...black/white and very trendy. Also fully stocked/equipped (fridge, coffee plunger, dishware, etc). And to boot, you're within walking distance to all the main restaurants. The bed was not only super comfy but had top-quality linens and down-filled pillows (the FIRST down pillows we've had since being in New Zealand). We learned from the owner that they're in phase one of construction and will be constructing a second wing and pool soon (so don't be put off by the outside appearance). A total gem of a hotel...would highly recommend this place and we'll definitely be staying here again!

We were in Rotorua to attend a conference at the Novotel - why didn't we stay there?Well they wouldn't guarantee a non-smoking room - in 2009?
So onto the internet and we found this Gem- rooms brand new and trendy- all the latest and equipped to a fantastically high standard.
I was shocked by the outside appearance though - very 60's motel- not shabby and extremely well painted etc - so don't be put off - this is the start of a major redevelopment - so if the rest is completed to the same standard then the opposition had better watch out.
...and the best...the price - far too cheap- sometimes when you get such a great deal you can be a little suspicious- in this case don't be put off- it's great.

We really enjoyed our time in the Regent of Rotorua. It is very retro which you may or may not like but as the rooms are all newly decorated and I was quite happy with my navy blue and white colour scheme with black and white printed wallpaper!
It is like a motel block from the outside but the rooms are all very comfortable - lovely bed although it did give me back ache as it was maybe a bit too soft!
The shower and bathroom is airy and light and the monsoon shower really good.
You can park right outside the motel and it is really centrally located - a few hundred yards from the restaurants and bars. Just note that everyone eats extremely early in Rotorua - by 8pm the restaurants were dead!
We were only booked in for one night but ended up doing two and that was no problem either - the guy on reception was very laid back and we didn't confirm it until the morning that we wanted to stay so very relaxed.
All in all it was a very different experience to anywhere else I stayed in New Zealand but a good one. Nice to have a change from a standard hotel although at £80 per night it was pricier than some of the places we stayed.

Chose to stay after reading the most recent tripadvisor reviews. Just a minutes walk to the main street for restuarants, yet a quiet setting. Ignore the outside appearance and look in the rooms. As stated before, everything is new and clean. Fantastic value.

We arrived in Rotorua on a very wet and miserable day, technically too early to check in. Not a problem. We were welcomed and given a choice of room. We were also given a comprehensive run down on the activities and attractions in Rotorua.

The hotel has recently undergone a total refurbishment to good effect. The rooms are well equiped, tastefully furnished in a retro style. The shower room has a monsoon shower and has all the toiletries etc one could want. There is also a natural hot pool which guests can use - great when it is wet and windy outside.

There is no restaurant or cafe in the hotel - although the owners say they intend to develop one. The restaurant street of Rotorua is 50 yards from the hotel with a choice of at least 10 restaurants on offer. A tip - go early or book! We found most were full when we ventured out at 8pm

All in all the Regent is well worth a visit - good value, good attention to detail and a warm welcome.

We booked the Regent based on the reviews on tripadvisor and what a great choice that turned out to be!!

When you arrive the outside of the building looks like a 1950's motel, just cleaner and freshly painted.

The insides of the rooms are fantastic as they still have the 50's styling but with a modern slant and great touches.

The room was all in black and white with diamonte's on the curtains and small patches of colour such as a throw across the bed and flowers.

The room was equiped with superking bed, (v. comfy with loads of pillows), flatscreen tv (which you plug you DVD player / camera / etc directly into, Ipod docking station that also doubled up as an alarm clock, tub chairs, fridge, kettle, microwave etc.

The bathroom had a monsoon shower head and a seperate handheld shower attachment as well. It also had dressing gowns and slippers for both of us.

There is loads of parking and you are a couple of minutes walk from the town centre for eating etc.

There is also a compimentary mineral spa within the motel complex which was great for an hours relaxing.

When we arrived there was note saying the motel was still being worked on - I think there is a treatment area and mini-gym still to be added - but this made no impact on our stay.
