We satyed only one night at the Regent of Rotorua but Darryn who was the manager made us feel like we had been there for weeks. The service was the most friendly and knowledeable of our time in New Zealand so far. The room was impeccable and the location was perfect. Wished we could stay for longer but loved everything about the Regent...a must stay.

Based on all the excellent reviews of the Regent of Rotorua, we booked a night here on our way south from Auckland. While simple and plain at first glance, the second look (and look inside the rooms) reveals a gorgeous refurbishment of this typical motel layout building. Stylish and very attractive, the furnishings and decor are completely lovely.

Our only problem was due to allergies. :( The room was extremely perfumy when we went in, and immediately I became congested. The hotel staff were very kind and offered the chance to smell-test another room, but that one too was unfortunately extremely perfumed. On previous occasions when I've been in similar situations, I've had severe asthma attacks in the night, and despite as much airing out as we could manage, we sadly had to move next door to the far less nice (but vastly less perfumed) Ibis hotel.

I know smoking-free rooms are fairly standard these days, but it's important for hotel owners to know that allergies to extremely perfumed "air freshener" sprays are quite common. I would have loved to have been able to stay in the Regent. Sadly, their perfumed rooms made that unfeasible for me.

We don't have enough wonderful things to say about our stay the the Regent of Rotorua. This was a lovely hotel within the central business district of Rotorua and within walking distance of Lake Rotorua, museum, and hot springs. It has a very chic and modern decor, very clean, and fresh. But the most outstanding part of this hotel was the service. Darryn and his staff were proactive to make sure everything was taken care of for us. He called to confirm pre-booked tours, suggested and booked tours we hadn't planned before arriving at the hotel, called the tour bus to make sure we had enough time to eat lunch, etc. He went above and beyond our expectations. We had breakfast and lunch in the restaurant: the salmon eggs benedict and beet salad were outstanding. I would definitely stay there again if visiting the area. We toured the movie set for the Hobbits, went to a Maori cultural experience, and visited the hot springs while staying in Rotorua. They were all great tours.

Darryn and his colleagues made our one night stay a very pleasant time. Friendly efficiency and helpful suggestions allowed our limited time to be used to visit two tourist attractions which proved to be excellent choices. Our accommodation was modern and comfortable and together with the superb breakfast made for a memorable but short visit.

Great friendly and accommodating staff as well as a great restaurant. They went out of their way to accommodate us in the restaurant even though they were fully booked. They created a private dinning room for us just off the main restaurant . Could not have been nicer or more flexible.
