My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had an upgrade on our room which was large and comfortable with a lovely modern bathroom with a jacuzzi bath which took ages to fill as it was so big. Tea and coffee making facilities were communal and directly outside our room so the bathrobe came in handy!
Kim and Gavin are lovely managers as was the lady who cleaned our room. I liked the way Gavin prepared a little something each day for breakfast to supplement the usual breakfast fare. The breakfast choice wasn't as extensive as we experienced elsewhere, but was perfectly adequate and delicious. One little thing that would make it seem more upmarket would be to ditch the sachets of jam and marmalade on the breakfast table and replace them with quality conserves.
The Lodge offers the use of a kayak to explore the lake and we fully intended using it one afternoon, but the weather closed in and the lake got tossed around so we had to forgo this pleasure. Nice to have it on offer though.

The lodge is right next to Lake Rotorua which meant that we were able to walk out of the french window in our room down to the shore of the lake. The lodge also provided kayaks for the guests to use - that meant that I could go and have a play on the lake. The receptionist also said that it was safe to swim in the lake - I also did this. The water wasn't as cold as I expected, so it was a very pleasant swim (although the weeds were a bit unpleasant around the legs). The lodge was really nice. The room was comfortable, large and well-equipped. The breakfast was brilliant: Gavin came up with some really interesting and tasty items. The granola was the best we had in NZ.

We stayed there with a group of 9 people and it was part of a 16 days trip around north island. This place was the highlight of our trip. It is difficult to describe how pleasant was our stay there. The serenity of the place, the quality of the service, the smile of Kim, the amazing size of the rooms, the quality of the bed, the breakfast....nothing was slightly bad. The picture you will find online are honestly far from what you will experience. Our surprise when we checked in was huge...! I have travelled almost everywhere, I have stayed in many good hotels, but Koura Lodge has something just better... I will be back!

So relaxing! Our well-appointed room had a beautiful lake view. We were well taken care of by hosts Gavin and Kim. We really enjoyed just relaxing on the lawn overlooking the lake and taking a sauna at night. We also loved sitting out on the sunny porch having a fabulous breakfast. This is a very special place. It was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. We also appreciated all the information Gavin provided us on things to see and do in the area.

Gavin & Kim deserve a big Thumbs Up for being fantastic hosts! We interacted with Gavin through out our trip, he was ever so friendly & made us feel most welcome.

The Koura Lodge is among the best places that we've stayed in, on the banks of the lake - wonderful peaceful setting, fantastic rooms, great area to relax besides the lake, nice collection of books & dvds and more importantly, very close to the Rotorua Town Centre (hardly 5 min drive).

The Air/Boat safaris pick us up from the Hotel Jetty, which is super convenient.

Gavin went out of his way to whip up a vegetarian meal for us, the croissants & beans were fantastic!

We loved our stay here & are looking forward to being back :)

Room Tip: All rooms here are fantastic, you might want to choose the rooms having an extension on the banks of the lake or the rooms at the upper deck which are just 10 steps away from the lake. Chat away with the hosts as they have plenty of information to give!
