“A fantastic YHA - a tick in all the boxes!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2014

My husband and I stayed for one night in a double room (with ensuite) at this YHA and though we arrived earlier than when our room was ready, we were welcomed to use the kitchen and lounge facilities etc - a big help. On this - the kitchen is well equipped, large and user friendly. The lounge has heaps of space (a round pool table!) and computers for use. Free WiFi throughout the YHA too.

Our double room was basic but adequate - a small ensuite with (a good) shower, basin and toilet. Electronic passes to access the room made it easier than carrying bulky keys.

Location is great - right near Kairau Park and a short stroll into the centre of town.

Along with the above, this YHA is great value for money, includes proper towels (at least in the double rooms), has friendly and informative staff and we would definitely stay here again!

Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us. And we agree, our staff are pretty great and our facilities are user friendly. And the free WiFi? Can't beat it. Once again, thanks for your feedback. Happy travels!

This a very modern and lovely yha. Very clean. Ensuite rooms close to reception are noisy. Take the rooms closest to the side driveway. Other than that a great experience. We were worried about the smell but the YHA is fine.

Room Tip: The ensuite rooms are noisy!!!!!

Stayed in the YHA for 2 nights. The private room was clean and the linen and towels are provided which was very helpful. the staff were great and really helpful with excursions and information. The only downside is that the private rooms are on the ground floor and we were woken whenever someone came back to the hostel after hours with the gate slamming closed and walking by the window. It was very hot, ans I just had to endure it as I couldn't close it! But it is a youth hostel and I was once a backpacker myself!

This was the only backpackers we could find open at 9:30pm. Night staff gentleman was very helpful and kind.

the staff were very helpful and the rooms were clean. Twin rooms a little $$$ for backpackers but would stay there again.

We stayed in a 4 person dorm.
The room was clean and quiet our only comment is 2 plugs to serve 4 people and it was right in the corner (This can't be said for all rooms as i imagine they might have a different layout).

The kitchen was large and there were enough fridges so there was no need for cramming.
The security was great as was the staffs friendliness and helpfulness.

We highly recommend you stay here, especially as the only other Hostel nearby is base and let's be honest who wants to stay there.

Clean and spacious hostel with massive kitchen and stocked with many appliances. Rooms comfortable and spacious. The hostel did lack atmosphere and guests tended to keep themselves to themselves a bit.

Loved this YHA as it was just across the road from a free public thermal park. Close to amazing attractions too. Best get shared rooms. Twin room a bit loud as people were loud very early. Kids in shared rooms had a better sleep.
