It is called a Blue Lake but it's hardly really blue. Of course water looks blue but it's not like the Blue Lake in Mount Gambier in South Australia, that's really blue (btw I am not from SA, I am not even Australian). The scenery is nice but nothing you can't see elsewhere in NZ. There is a Green Lake nearby yet again one wouldn't call it green.

When you go to the Blue Lake, you can sit on the shores of the lake and admire the view, take a dip, cook a barbecue or head across the road for an ice cream. If you are feeling energetic you can walk around the lake (approximately one hour). It's not a hard walk but there are some steps. Don't forget to have a look at both the Green and Blue Lakes from the lookout (carry on past towards Tarawera and look out for a sign on your right)

This is a lovely clean small lake close to town. It is sheltered from most wind directions and is a popular lake to swim in summer. For this reason I tend to avoid it when busy and head to Okereka or Tarawera. However in winter on a lovely day like today it has an excellent walking track all the way around 5.5km which will take about one and a half hours with several beautiful places to stop and admire the view. Gentle terrain means the kids can do it as long as you pack a drink and there are toilets at the carpark.

We went to the blue and green lakes if you go to the lookout you can see on one side the green lake and on the other side you can see the blue lake but the council need to prune some of the trees to get a better look . They are abit over grown

Look for a view point between Blue Lake and Green Lake - some pure awesomeness can be captured there!
