“Absolutely fantastic service and accomodation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

Absolutely fantastic service and accomodation and the food was to die for. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. It was the best tonic ever!

One thing that would enhance this experience would be more tea bags and more milk supplied daily.

We stayed at Pepper's Point for a bit of relaxation and luxury... and we were not disappointed. Stunning location, lovely room, fabulous service and absolutely wonderful food... all the ingredients of a fabulous couples weekend! I highly recommend Peppers and will certainly be back as soon as possible!

We visit Rotorua often from our home in Auckland. Recently we thought we'd try Peppers. We have stayed in "exclusive" places in Europe, the US, Asia and South America. As a kiwi I am embarrassed about this so-called "resort". It is appallingly over-priced. The decor is extremely tacky. The place is tired and gives you the sense that it's about to become an AA clinic. Tomorrow perhaps? There were lipstick stains on the coffee cups. The hot water was limited. And there was no service other than "there's the heater". I have no idea why you would stay here. Honestly if you are visiting Rotorua stay at a 4/5 star hotel in the city. The Holiday Inn is better (i know because i stayed there last month). If you are after genuine luxury and class try Huka Lodge down the road towards Taupo or some of the Queenstown accommodation which is properly in the lodge league. Do not make this mistake.

Thank you for your second review on the Lake Villa Apartment. As stated in your first review I was dissappointed you experienced issues when you stayed. I had hoped you would have contacted me to discuss the issues further.
The Lake Villa Apartment is separate from the Main Lodge and sits under the Lake Villa beside the tennis court. The apartment is contemporary in style in comparrison to the lodge which is classic.
We have taken onboard the issues you raised and have put actions in place. In regards to the decor of the apartment we appreciate we are unable to cater to everyones taste but I have given your comments to the owner.
Thank you again for your comments and would also welcome you to contact me directly.

Dont make the mistake of staying here. Much better accommodation is available elsewhere in Rotorua for 1/10 of the price. Manhattan or London provide better value! The decor was appalling. We love historic places which is why we choose this location, but rather than faded grandeur this was more like a creepy former retirement home. I agree with previous reviewer that the exterior architecture was a real hotch potch. But inside was worse.... think early 80's with lots of unheated tiling floor and shabby kitchen. Only instant coffee provided. Modest kiwiana motel style places provide more luxury and atmosphere than this. Frankly I bamboozled by any positive reviews for this place.

Room Tip: Avoid the apartment

We enjoyed our stay at peppers and although the beds bathrooms service were unquestionably high the standard of the hotel was a little disappointing. The main reception room and adjoining lounge are beautiful but there seems to have been a lot of add ins at differing periods so aesthetically the architecture is quite disharmonious. This unfortunately distracted from all the good features for me. Bikes and kayaks or canoes would be a welcome addition to the active guests needs.

Thank you for your review and comments, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay.
In regards to the lodge building the original part of the lodge was built in 1933 and has been added to over the years. When the house was converted to a lodge 7 years ago the property under went a major refurbishment with the addition of 2 suites to the lodge, the conservatory and 2 lake cottage suites. It is fair to say we have an ecleptic mix of accommodation which gives the property its uniqueness and exclusivity.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

My fiance planned a trip to Peppers for my 30th birthday. Everything was outstanding from the moment we arrived. We were personally shown around the property. Our car was driven directly to our cottage and we were brought drinks to help settle us in.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful. The decoration was pleasant and calming. Plus the bed was the most comfortable bed we had ever slept on away from home! But the absolute best part was the view! Plus the cottage was fairly private, other than the four legged friends coming up to the patio to say hi. We could see the lake and the island even from the bed. We enjoyed opening the curtains in the morning to take in the stunning sunrises and also turning on the fire to cuddle up and enjoy the sunsets. We stayed in the cottage that is closest to the chapel.

He had bought the inclusive package, so our meals were included. The chef does top notch cuisine. From the canapes all the way to dessert, the meals were flawless and full of flavor! For breakfast, we had it delivered to our room. They were fantastic about seeing if they could make anything that wasn't on the menu and Olaf was great about remembering our personal tastes for meals (like the fact that I don't eat seafood and that my fiance doesn't eat red meat). My fiance also had them make a birthday cake for me. I'm picky with cake, but this was absolutely delicious! We were full from dinner the evening of my birthday and had the cake brought back to our room. We figured we would have a bit of it in the morning but ended up finishing the whole thing because it was so fresh and light!

All the staff was so friendly and helpful, the cottage was incredible, and exploring the grounds was delightful. We can't say enough good things about Peppers on the Point and we are talking about coming back every year for my birthday!

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic!
