Unlike other reviewers, we enjoyed our stay at Kiwi Paka. Our family of four stayed for two nights in a chalet, which while basic, provided us with all we needed.

The service we received from staff was good. There were times when they were busy, but we only waited a few minutes to have our queries dealt with. One of my children left something behind, and before we have even noticed it was missing and could ask them about it, they had already sent it to us in our home country.

We ate breakfast both mornings in the cafe, which included the largest latte's and hot chocolates we have every seen. We also enjoyed a drink at the bar one evening while watching our children (10 & 13) enjoy the thermal pool.

We did not use the kitchens, fridges, or other communal areas and our chalet was away from the main dorms, so admit our experience might have been different if doing so.

Very decent place for a backpacker accommodation. Good WiFi plans as well.

Stayed there on a geography field trip with my university and just one prob after another.

My friend got a purse stolen from underneather her nose, turns out the little boy who lives there related to the people that run it some way had stolen it. It was only after our lecturer theaten to call the police they did naything about it. As well the same boy had taken our room key and then returned it. As well our lecturers mentioned that passports had gone missing to from previous visits. But after this our university wont be stayin there again. As well the hostel it backed on the roughest park in New zealand.

The rooms are small, no where to put your clothes, no where to dry your clothes after a day of walking in the rain!! You dont even get a sink and the staff are the rudest i ever come across. Noting this our lecturers requested to move after the first night of stayin there. Highly unrecommoneded

The staff were unreasonable and absolutely rude. Yes, the price was reasonable, but it also proved that you get what you pay for. The thermal pool did not match up to good old green New Zealands standards, it was however green from the filth and grime. In attempting a discussion with management to get a refund we recieved a huge spit in the face. Rude remarks were made by the managment staff and we did not recieve our refund. No damage was done to the place and whatever mess was made, was spic and span in the morning. I am glad we only stayed there for one night, i couldnt have bared to stay there any longer. Hopefully they found good use out of our $500 they took.

      DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

We arrived at the Kiwi Paka at 1pm and by 1:01pm i was allready sick of it!
The moment we walked in the door to reception we were rudely greeted by the staff and the manager. Being the paying customer you would like to think you will be welcomed into your temporary accomodation, yet we left the reception area with the impression the manager thought we were somthing off the bottom of his shoe.
The rooms are cramped and musty smelling, the pool is almost as filthy as the manager and staff's mouths and there is limited car parking space. I strongly regret not searching out other Hostel / Backpacker accomodation, instead just booking here on gut feeling. It was the first time staying at the KIWI PAKA and i tell you now, it will definatly be my last, im glad we were only there for 1 night. If the staff continue giving the same poor service as we received, the KIWI PAKA will be another small buisness failure in NZ in the not to distant future ..... i would not let my DOG get spoken to the way we did .....
