We went into this restaurant in November 2013. It was very disappointing. We ordered a 2 course special, I had pate for starters which was average and my husband had oysters. It was a very long wait for our main course and when it arrived it was only luke warm. I had lamb and my husband had chosen pasta. The gentleman who took our order lacked manners, leaning over to place cutlery but the lady who I spoke to regarding our meal was lovely. We were told it would be another 45 minute wait as they were busy but we could only see a few tables in use. We refused and paid our bill, charged full price for starters and drinks $80 and was still hungry! So much for a 2 course special. No apology was given by the. An who originally served us when we paid the bill and no gesture of any kind to make up for our Luke warm meal! Appalling service do not use the restaurant!

Had Christmas high tea with my work mates. Paid $28 each. 12 of us. It was our second time and we all thought the quality was very poor second time around. Very limited option. Also different sizes of tea cups is a minus. Only one staff. On of us ended up offering refills because the lady serving disappears now and again. Wont recommend it.

After a busy three days in Rotorua we intended just having a quiet wine but were made so welcome by the Manager and bar staff we decided to stay for a meal. The owner's daughter is the well known young singer, Elizabeth Marvelly and we enjoyed hearing her latest CD in the bar. The restaurant is formal and it was very nice to relax in such beautiful surroundings and meet fellow travellers. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The wine and the meal were in the upper price bracket but the quality made it worthwhile and a very memorable experience all round.

We took a Sunday Lunch Club group to this restaurant yesterday. Communication beforehand and service on the day was excellent! It was a little inclement outside, so we sat by the fire & had drinks before the 12.30 lunch that we had booked. The Loin of Lamb coated in a seeded mustard & thyme crust was had by most and all commented on the fact that it was top standard, as were the other dishes. It was appreciated that the restaurant, when contacted prior to the visit, was prepared to do the lamb dish minus the seeds for one member with dietary restrictions. We all loved the "Olde Worlde" ambience of the dining room, with its chandeliers & white tablecloths, and enjoyed reading the fascinating history of the hotel which had been in Waihi during the Goldrush days.
