Owner description: The largest of a dozen lakes formed by volcanic activity, this clear, calm lake offers cruises, kayaking and sailing, as well as great trout fishing.

Spend as much or as little time visiting Lake Rotorua. We didn't have much time, so had a small walk around the lake just out behind the Museum. The lake is a wonderful clear blue colour and is worth seeing it just for that. If you don't want to spend money on paying to see geysers and mudpools, have a walk near here and see them for free.

Only had a brief look at the waterfront on the city edge: cuz there wasn't much to look at. Pleasant enough area for a lakeside stroll along the promenade, but precious little to see or do.

While my husband and I were on our honeymoon we traveled to Rotorua. Our first stop when we hit the city was to visit the Isite. Which gave us some wonderful information about where we should visit while we were in Rotorua. We start by walking to the Government Gardens, from there we travelled on a walking path which lead us around Lake Rotorua. The lake was very pretty and the walk was nice as well. While we were walking we stopped at a traditional hand carved Maori canoe. It was a bit overcast that day so we couldn't see across the lake, but we felt since we were in Rotorua we should visit it. A nice scenic visit.

I spent a lot of time on the lake jetboating, lakeland cruise, paddle boats and kayaks. Each one was a great experience. All of these are situated round the same place but parking is a bit limited on weekends. You will also notice the large number of black ducks and black swans in the lake, pretty cool to see.

Easily accessible and plenty of parking. There are plenty of activities, but note that it is quite expensive.
Of note is the Para-sailing and Jet-boat activities that the family thoroughly enjoyed.
