“Regal Palms Resort Suites Rotorua - A Jewel find”
Reviewed September 9, 2008

Having just returned from a visit to Australia and New Zealand involving stays at several fine hotels, I must commend the exceptionally high standard of comfort and room features available at the Regal Palms Resort complex Rotorua. Without doubt, the staff really try hard to ensure that your stay is memorable for all the right reasons, and the room we selected, (an Executive 1 Bedroom Suite) proved to offer a surprisingly high level of quality furnishings and modern fittings and fixtures. On entry to the room, the lounge area was spacious and included a computer desk, a 3 seat settee which can be converted into a comfortable bed, a n additional settee facing an LCD TV and a micro Hi-Fi system on a table. The room had an efficient heater/ air conditioning unit and a table and chairs within the kitcjhen area. The fitted kitchen was very modern with stainless steel cooking pans and utensils, a toaster, a kettle, a microwave oven and a fridge. Most kitchen utensils were provided and it was an easy task to prepare quite complex meals with these facilities. A supermarket is easily accessible by car within 5 minutes from the complex and the location is ideal for the local shops in Rotorua. The bedroom was equally impressive with high quality cotton bedding and co-ordinated soft furnishings. Stotrage space was impressive in the fitted wardrobes and the atmosphere was nearer to a home than a hotel stop. The bathroom was the best surprise with a large deep jacuzzi bath with powerful water jets. A shower cubicle area was included in the bathroom design, together with two porcelain sinks, backed by a full length mirror. A heated towel rail ensured that the big fluffy towels were always dry and ready for another relaxing bathe.
The overall impression of this find was that we were extremely fortunate to have discovered such a jewel in the Rotorua area, and visits to all the main attractions was simple and quick by car. There are restaurants within the local area and delivery to your room can be made with a phone call if you do not want to prepare food yourself.
On arrival, we were given a welcome basket of a carton of milk and some cookies for the first cup of tea or coffee: a thoughtful and welcome gesture. Reception staff are always willing to offer guidance and advice on local attractions and I would strongly urge you to give this a try, you will be pleasantly surprised and impressed with the standards achieved. The value for money is unparalleled and certainly acts to encourage you to stay a little longer than you first thought of. We were sorry to have to leave this haven of peace and tranquility.

Of our touring holiday in New Zealand, this was by far the best hotel we experienced. What value for money! The hotel is central, the reception staff are super accommodating, and the rooms are wonderful. We stayed in winter and these were the warmest rooms we had. The beds were super comfortable, and the three plasma t.v's were a treat! The kitchen was modern and functional.
The best part of the stay was the huge spa in our room. What a relaxing experience and to enjoy it in the privacy of our own room was out of this world!
Additionally, the internet lounge was a lovely bonus. Cozy (nice fireplace) and close to the room, it was easy to get online each day.

This hotel made me want to stay in Rotorua longer!

Arrived on 7 July for one night and stayed for 3. Large executive room and huge bathroom with great underfloor heating and spa. All very cosy at a cold time in Rotorua.

Kitchen space had lots of equipment and proved very useful.

Front desk staff helpful.

Easy to access internet.

Really enjoyed our time there.

My boyfriend and i stayed here for two nights. We stayed in an Executive Studio apartment. It was a really nice room with a really nice big bathroom. We stayed in Rotorua when it was really cold so having our own private spa in the room was sooo nice! The hotel is just like the pictures.. Felt like luxury and just want to go back! Definitely recommend!

We stayed at the Regal Palms for 2 nights during our visit to Rotorua.
We booked a 1 bedroom executive room. At check-in we were given cookies and milk for tea/coffee.

The room was perfect for our needs. We made use of the kitchen facilities both days. We bought groceries from the supermarket just down the road. During our stay our daughter made use of the pool (too cold for us in March) and we all had a few games of mini-golf.

The spa was a great novelty for our daughter, who used it more than us.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Regal Palms – 190NZ per night in March 2007- Private outdoor patio on ground floor/Superior Studio350 Fenton Street, Rotorua Phone: [--], Freephone [--], www.regalpalmsml.co.nz , Email: [--]This place rocked… Big spa tub…Free Internet… Kitchenette, wonderful host who was full of tons of information. They even had a little putt-putt golf area and gave us milk and cookies upon check in. Only drawback is that it is a bit far to walk into town. If you want to be able to walk to have your meals, I suggest you stay at the Royal Lakeside Novotel or maybe Hotel Ibis – I don’t know what they are like on the inside but they had great location. Now, with all of that said – You will be so busy in Rotorua, that you will hardly even see your hotel.

Regal Palms is a very pleasant place to stay. We stayed in an Executive Studio apartment. It was a good size room, a huge bathroom, and a wee courtyard which was lovely and private.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was lovely and clean.

The spa bath was wonderful, so relaxing after a busy day of activites.

This would be a great place for families, with the pool, mini putt golf and tennis. We used the pool and had some fun on the mini putt.

All in all a great property, I am just not sure that it rates the 5 stars or the rather expensive nightly rate. It seemed on par with other properties that I have stayed at that have been cheaper.

  • Liked — Wonderful spa bath
  • Disliked — Rooms were rather dark
