“"The" must-see attraction near Rotorua”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

Waiotapu is about half an hour's drive from Rotorua on the Taupo road. Relatively easy to find, but it could be better signposted. It is about an hour's easy walk to go round the whole place (after you have seen the geyser, which they make active by shoving soap powder down it!) and it is well worth the walk. The whole thing would be worth it just for the "Artist's Palet" - a large, shallow pool with vivid splashes of blue, green, yellow, ochre, white, violet and red caused by the minerals brought up by the thermal streams - and the champagne pool - a constantly bubbling pool of viridian water surrounded by a bright red shoreline. Add to that the pool toward the end of the walk which appears to be filled with lime green custard! There are plenty of other things to see, but I will remember the amazing natural colours of the thermal pools. Not to be missed!

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

While the artificially induced daily eruption of Lady Knox geyser was not worth the hype, the walk around the park was interesting. The park was much more than the picturesque Champagne Pool, so it is worthwhile to take your time and go through all the three sections of the park.

“Really interesting and beautiful place to visit”
Reviewed March 9, 2014 via mobile

We came here on our way to Rotorua and were fascinated by the things we saw. The place is absolutely unique! You should definitely have a walk through to see Devil's bath crater and viewpoint from the small forest! The smell is not so nice, but it is natural and the source is well explained in the brochure you receive by entrance. The staff is friendly, everything is perfect.

Wai-o-tapu thermal wonderland has the Lady Knox geyser that is artificially induced to perform at 10.15 every morning. Otherwise, there are lots of lake features with some brightly coloured and the walk through the surrounding countryside is also worth the time. There’s a well marked, protected and prepared path that will take you around 1.5 hours to complete with steps and some slightly rougher walking over parts – but you don’t need to do it all: it’s well worth a visit even if it is a little too well manicured and packaged. Not necessarily cheap.

“Geyser not worth it...”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

They have to start it with a reactant and it only goes about 30ft verses the 60ft they advertise. Thermal pools are colorful - Don't miss the "Free" mud pool as you enter or leave the "paid" site.. - its really interesting
