“Beautiful place with diverse array of thermal sites, from small to huge”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Such an interesting, colorful place. There are thermal pools with many colors and diverse characteristics, from bubbling mud to the colorful and giant Champage Pool to exotic green and yellow pools as well. Three loops. Interesting trails. Very knowledgeable staff. It was a highlight of our Rotorua visit, though there are many other interesting places in the area as well.

“First class experience”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Was very impressed by this attraction . A real must do in this vicinity. The geyser was just so, so. Mainly spoilt for us by a lady in front of us who kept standing and blocking the view for others. The thermal walk was magical

“Thermal experience”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Missed the 10.15am experience so decided to visit in afternoon. Wondered why an afternoon timing isn't scheduled aswell ?! But we spent an hour walking the route. Glad we visited but we were already tired out by an active morning so possibly this was a walk too much especially with the sunny weather. Wondered also whether the recent hot weather changes some of the experience ie the Lake? Can be smelly ( Obviiously!) make sure you use good sun protection etc and take a drink and rest if you can during the walk. Large gift shop and nice cafe. We bought a combined ticket from the I site tourist info centre on line service ( excellent email responses) although after collecting the vouchers from the tourist centre still had to queue to exchange these ( no separate queue) not a problem for us but if a particularly busy period this might be frustrating.

“Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland - an absolute must-do!”
Reviewed February 12, 2013 via mobile

We visited the Thermal Wonderland, drawn by the lure of the Lady Knox Geyser, but in the event, this proved to be the least special part of the visit.

The Geyser itself is set off with a little help every day at 10:15, after which you have all the time you need to see the park. The boiling mud pool is curiously addictive, and you can spend some time watching boiling mud being flung around the huge pool, but once you've seen that, you can begin your trip for real - around the mineral pools.

These steaming pools look like an artist has had an accident with the Dulux colour chart, so vibrant are the colours in the various waterholes. We were so fascinated we spent several hours wandering around the site. If you are not fussed about the geyser - and there are more spectacular ones to see in the area - then I suspect the afternoon would be much quieter than the morning.

If you're a photographer, make sure you visit on a sunny day, and make sure you've got a polarising filter to hand and lots of space on the memory cards: you'll have a ball!

If you're in Rotorua, make this the geothermal site you visit.

“Nice value for your money”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

lot's of geothermal area's around Rotorua are quite expensive to visit, but this one was, we thougth, quite affordable. It's a nice area, good walks, espaccially the board walk around the champagne pools.

The Lady Knox geiser was, as far as we thought not so interesting, but if you're there anyhow it's nice to visit.

As are the Mudpools, on the right side of the road when you drive back from Wai-o-tapu to the main road.
boiling mud stays interesting!
