Great location on the edge of town. Clean and comfortable room as you'd expect from a Holiday Inn. Caters for families and children. There was a 'spin-and-win' wheel on arrival - everyone wins a prize. Heated outdoor pool which looked well utilised. We had a quiet room at the end of a corridor. Big games room for kids - movies, games etc. Free parking. Good value overall.

Hi JETlflyer

Thanks for your review. It sounds like you stayed with us during the recent NZ School Holidays. The games room and spin and win are not advertised facilities and are not offered all year round. The pool however is open year round as it is geothermally heated.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Rotorua for one night in March. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Pictures and description on the hotel web site are accurately depict the hotel. Front desk staff was friendly and efficient. Considering the quality of the hotel and the rate I paid, I felt it was a good value choice. TA lists the Hotel Category as between 4 and 5 star, which I feel is generous. The hotel is very comparable to Holiday Inns in the U.S.

The hotel is adjacent to Whakarewarewa Geothermal Reserve and about 5 minutes drive from the center of Rotorua with its restaurants, shops and attractions.

First time we stayed there. We choose this hotel as they have the kids eat and stay for free which is a saving for you when you have kids ! Also you can tell this is a family place which is very nice when the kids are welcome. Booked a superior with 2 queen bed, views was a bit sad cause we were facing the side parking and were only on level 2.
But it was not noisy at all because the hotel is outside the city. Smell of the geothermal wasn’t strong at all like other people have mentioned.
Kids got a small activity pack at their arrival and to spin the wheel for a gift, it also come with a bracelet that give you discount on lots of activities for the kids.
Pool and spa was nice and clean, towel provided.
Room was spacious enough and very clean.
Bathroom were clean, but you can tell from the shower over the bath that needs a bit of reno otherwise it was ok.
We were happy with our stay and the staff were very nice and friendly. Would definitely come back and recommend this place.

Hi Rei88

Thanks for providing a review of your stay, you must have stayed during the school holidays as we don't always have the spin and win wheel. I'm pleased you and your family enjoyed your Rotorua break.

The hotel is in a great location right next door to the Whakarewarewa Living Maori Village. The breakfast and dinner buffets in the restaurant are superb. Both have an expensive choice of well cooked food which is constantly being replenished. However, the housekeeping staff let the hotel down, hence only giving it an average rating. We had booked a double room, but when we got into the room after checking in, we found it was a family room which normally has a double and a single, and an extra bed had also been left in the room leave no space to move around the room. The room was also quite small. We went back to reception and after much haggling managed to get an upgrade for $25 per night. The new room was very good, clean and spacious, with a great view over the neighbouring geothermal area. We stayed for four nights, and housekeeping still let themselves down at times by not leaving the correct quota of towels etc. and seemed unable to get it right after we asked for replacements.

Room tip: Best rooms are the 700s and 800s in the Whaka Wing, and try and get one with a view of the geothermal area.

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. I'm sorry that we didn't get your room servicing right, it's disappointing when one aspect of a guests stay doesn't live up to the rest of the experience.

The choices in Rotorua vary greatly. This had great reviews and lived up to them during our stay. We stayed for 2 nights in April. We Had the basic double room it was clean and pretty big for a double room. The only hotel I have stayed at in Rotorua but after driving around and seeing some of the other options it is one of the better options.

The pool is heated by the hot springs and is a very nice experience.

There is a lobby bar and a full-service restaurant on the premises. The food prices seemed a little steep, Breakfast Buffet was 25NZD per person kids eat free but was confused if that included teenagers.

We drove down but it is on the outskirts of town bu walking distance to Te Puia, there is a shuttle not sure of the schedule but it is an option for the tour bus crowd.

Hi DeltaBravo77

Thanks for choosing to stay with us in Rotorua, it's always great to read that we live up to expectations based on previous reviews.

In our part of the world 'Kids stay and eat free' applies to those 12 and under. This does vary in other areas.
