I found this hotel to be a typical Holiday Inn. The staff was friendly and our room was clean.
Because of the location, our room did smell like sulfur, but we were able to see the steam from two geothermal vents from our balcony. The view was one of the reasons I chose to stay at this hotel, so the sulfur smell was all part of the experience! If you would prefer to not smell sulfur, though, then perhaps a different location would better suite your needs.

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of options; there was even a juicer and an espresso machine (other buffet breakfasts in NZ charged extra for espresso, and I’ve never seen a juicer at a buffet!).

As for location, the hotel is within about a block from the Whakarewarewa Maori village. We were only there one night, but I got the impression that you would probably need to drive to dinner.

My husband and I both tried connecting to the Wi-Fi, but we became disconnected after about a minute every time we tried. We didn’t bother trying to resolve it with the front desk, though, because we weren’t there to surf the Internet anyway.

Also worth noting, as this is a larger hotel, they do cater to tour groups.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back!

We stayed for one night on our tour of New Zealand. The hotel is conveniently located outside the city center, very close to the Whakarewarewa Maori village and delivers the standard service that you expect from a Holiday Inn. The staff was fantastic throughout our stay and was the definite plus of the property; we even received the happy hour rates half an hour before its "official" start.

The rooms were pretty standard and not recently renovated, but very well kept with a nice view. Cleanliness was perfect. The highlight of our stay was definetly the breakfast, probably the best we experienced in NZ. The buffet is massive with a lot of Western and Asian choices, probably due to the fact that the hotel, as others wrote, hosts many Chinese groups. The massive Chinese presence did not bother us at all, instead it was a definite plus (see breakfast). In our opinion, it's just a matter of understanding that different cultures exist and have differnt opinions/requirements.

We would suggest the Holiday Inn to anyone visiting Rotorua and would go back anytime.

the place is very neat and tidy. the staff is ready helpful though the service may be a bit late but what is commendable is the effort put up by them to bring smile to your face. i had got my car batteries drained out but the staff immediately made arrangements for getting the car started and went an extra mile to bring his own personal car to help me. thank you guys. all the best.

Holiday Inn Rotorua far exceeded our expectations. There was plenty of parking and our check in welcome was warm and professional.

There's a really warm, family-friendly and relaxed feeling at this hotel -- which you notice from the moment you enter their lobby. It's hard to explain...but it's so much warmer than a lot of hotels we have stayed in.

Our room was the quality you expect from an IHG Hotel (we've stayed in a few), which was well planned and used the space well. We had a meeting table, a coffee table with relaxing lounge style chairs, very comfy beds and good storage for all our gear.

The bathroom and air conditioning were excellent too. The TV was a little small, but it was still an LCD...but we were in Rotorua to have an adventure outdoors, not watch TV! :)

ALL of the staff went out of their way to greet us in passing and ensure if we needed anything, we had it fast.

We enjoyed their swimming pool and spa pool. We read that they are green in their approach to their heating, taking advantage of this thermal energy region.

Their restaurant, Chapmans, has world-class food. I personally have never tasted salmon that amazing! We were spoilt for choice with the buffet selection. There was curried pork, roast chicken and roast pork and beef and all kinds of seafood and salads and vegetables, and the desserts were to die for! OMG! We could have lived in this part of the hotel :). There was a good sized bar and lounge area too, although we didn't use these.

The Wi-Fi was great. You know how you go to some hotels and the Wi-Fi speed is appalling? Well, not here. I asked one of their team why it was so good and it's due to the way it has been set up. They wanted to ensure everyone enjoyed great speed all the time, unlike a lot of shared Wi-Fi networks and the way they are set up for public spaces. So this meant we were able to stream movies online to our laptop with ease. (There were a couple of short pauses during the movie, but nothing that affected its enjoyment.)

We previously stayed at the Crowne Plaza Auckland (another IHG hotel) and their room was, for lack of a better term, higher-specced than ours at Holiday Inn Rotorua. BUT, we feel this hotel is less corporate and more family and adventurer, and for the price, it's unbeatable. For not much more than the cost of an average motel in the region, you can step up to a far, far better experience at Holiday Inn Rotorua.

We will definitely be back as it was a great experience; one that we did not want to finish.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the geysers :). Magical.

Our room was clean and spacious , and we were pleased to find a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel is quite a distance from the town centre , and there is a shuttle bus if you do not want to drive. The pool was an added bonus, and it was free to park at the hotel. There were a few noisy groups staying, but our sleep was not disturbed.

Room Tip: Try not to be near the pool area.

I really enjoyed my stay and especially the staff service. Tipene on the front desk was especially helpful. The breakfast buffet was the best I've experienced in New Zealand. I will stay again-I think this hotel is best in rotorua.

We stayed in hotel for our honeymoon. I found stay at this hotel very pleasant, only thing was annoying front office staff ettiquetes. At the check in at arnd 3:30pm female staff told room will be ready in 5mins, after 25 I asked her again and she said letme check and then it she said room ready and here is ur keys 702. Eventhough there were about four staff at the reception but none of them really bothered to help to carry our luggage. My wife is pregnant and I ended up carrying all luggage by myself. It is my bad luck that I met the same receptionist when we checked out. She was on phone and did not even bothered to acknowledge me, later other female guest was also waiting for abt 5mins. She looked at her and was about to serve her instead the guest had to show her that I was first. When she chceked in the system and she just said that is FINE. No thank you no hospitality no nothing. Other than that I found bar tender (russian/european) vry knowledgable and well behaved.
