We got a deal through mystery wotif and paid NZ$95 per night. We were given a ground floor, double bed room even though I'd put in a request for a queen bed, high floor and quiet stay. The first night stay was not quiet at all with a big group of tourists shouting along the corridor. We requested for a change but was told there was only a small double bed room available. Very disappointing as our initial request was not catered for and wasn't sure if it was because we got a deal for it.

Other than this, the buffet dinner was great and the service at the restaurant and bar was certainly better than the service at reception. More smiley faces in the restaurant.

Dear Cucueee,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Holiday Inn Rotorua and for taking the time to place feedback on Trip Advisor.

I am pleased you enjoyed the buffet dinner and service at the restaurant and bar.

With the Mystery deal, the room type sold was a standard double bed room. As such, any requests for a different room type or upgrade, were subject to availability on the day. And because you were advised that there was only a small double bed room available to move to, I am certain that we would have been at peak occupancy, with no other options available for you at the time. For future bookings, our Reservations Team are happy to discuss your requirements with you, to ensure you are given a room that best suits your needs. Reservations can be made directly with the hotel by calling Freecall 0800 108 114.

Thank you again for placing valuable feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to Holiday Inn Rotorua next time you come to town.

Kindest regards,

Marcus Keenan

I've been staying at this hotel for business for more than 10 years, during which time it has changed owners twice. I like it for the friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the rooms and the quietness. The only downside is the location which is far from the restaurants and cafes of the downtown area of Rotorua. I was also disappointed that the management have removed the mini-bars from the rooms recently. However there is a convenience store at the nearby service station that is easy to walk to.

My family like to stay here also, my kids really like the heated swimming pool and the buffet breakfast. The place does cater to busloads of tourists which can make the restaurant very busy at times.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Whaka wing (numbers 600-800) are newer and bigger. On the older tower block the rooms at the back have good views over the thermal area.

Dear Cadbury64,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Holiday Inn Rotorua and for taking the time to place feedback on Trip Advisor.

It is fantastic to learn you have been staying with us for so long! We have changed brands in the last 10 years, becoming a Holiday Inn in March 2011. However, the Hotel has been owned by the same Family throughout this time.

We recently removed the Minibars from our guest rooms to create room in the refrigerator for our guests’ personal use. We still offer an extensive range of Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, which can be ordered to your room from your room phone.

Our location is away from the bustle of the downtown area, although only around five minutes drive by car or courtesy shuttle. We consider this a positive aspect that adds to the charm of our unique position next to the Geothermal Valley.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We look forward to welcoming you back to Holiday Inn Rotorua next time you come to town.

Kind regards,

Marcus Keenan

We spent 2nights and we enjoyed our stay. Its a nice place to bring the kids for a little holiday.
CHECK IN: was a little dissapointed, when we arrived, was adviced the rooms will only be available by 230pm.But front desk was very apologetic,I asked if we can do a late check in, and was given till 12N...we appreciate this effort..
ROOM318- I was expecting the room to have a balcony, as it said in my advance reservation, but there was none, i did not complain anymore, they said it was not available, i hope they wont mention it on the reservation if they could not provide it(so we wont expect it) ... however, the room that was given to us was clean, thumbs up for their beds and pillows, it was surely heaven ( tks to the tips of others on trip advisor) ! Hubby and son enjoyed sky sports...and we were cheering for the victory of the Breakers! Housekeeping staff was nice, and always had a smile for us.However, i noticed the hall and elevator was a bit tired, maybe needs a bit of update.
BATHROOM- Overall it was clean, but house cleaning can do a bit of scrubbing in between the tiles and the corners of the bathtub...there was a bit of mould. Hot water/ preassure , towels, including toiletries were all good.
POOL/SPA- we loved it specially the spa... could not get enough of the hot water and the jet massage!
BUFFET BREAKFAST- didn't avail of this, was a bit turned off by the way the lady staff at the chapmans bar (barista) treated us when we inquired about this...as if we were going to steal their food, when all we just wanted was look at the buffet setting to decide if we want to try it. Hope she gets more training on customer service...attn management...not a good first impressions specially for our tourist market!
LOBBY/HOTEL FACADE- needs more lights and a bit of update perhaps, more wow factor to invite more guests..
Overall it was a good experiece and i would recommend this to my friends with young children. The staff are generally nice, and its a good place to stay ( away from all the noise). We didn't bother about the smell, thats the beauty of Rotorua, very authentic. We will definately stay here again when we go back to rotorua, hopefully that lady staff at the chapman's bar will not be on duty at that time....ha ha ha

Dear skyblue0917,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Holiday Inn Rotorua and for taking the time to place feedback on Trip Advisor.

I am pleased you enjoyed our bed and pillows. It is so important to get a good nights sleep when you are travelling and away from home.

It was disappointing to read that you didn’t receive the room you were expecting. Without having details of your booking I am unable to ascertain how this came to be. Certainly, if you had confirmed a room with a balcony, then that ought to have been allocated, and I apologise that we did not get that right for you.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience with us. We look forward to welcoming you back to Holiday Inn Rotorua next time you come to town.

Kind regards,

We were a big mixed group and all of us found that the $43 for each adult was a rip off. OUr plates were stacked up in the center of the table, there was no hint of service at all, had to go to the bar to order and pay for the wine, then had to go back and get the wine glasses, then had to go get the water!

Was not offered a top up of water once. The food as dissapointing and only 2 tables worth of sad looking platters. Items had run out and were not replaced for over 30 minutes, by which time you were over waiting.

The only time we saw the waiter was when I got the bill shoved in my face whilst in mid sentence and I did not even ask for it.

You also had to go on a hike to the toilets if you managed to find them as the signage was lacking. The bins were overflowing and the sinks were a mess, they had obviously been overused as there was several functions going on but surely you would cater for that?!?!

Dealing with international trade, this is embrassing.

Room Tip: Don't do the buffet.

Dear EssexAuckland,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Holiday Inn Rotorua and for taking the time to place feedback on Trip Advisor. It was most disappointing to read of your experience with the Buffet Dinner. Clearly, in this instance, we fell well short of our expected standard as this is definitely not the level of product or service we strive to provide, and I would like to extend my apologies for the poor level of customer service you received.

I would be very happy for you to contact me personally, gm@holidayinnrotorua.co.nz so that we can talk through your feedback in more detail. I would love to know when you dined, as that would enable me to determine the date of the occurrence, and explore the circumstances at that time, to ensure we prevent this type of experience happening again.

Again, thank you again for placing your feedback on Trip Advisor. All correspondence, positive or negative, assists us in working towards improving our service.

Kindest regards,

We spent Easter weekend at the Holiday Inn - it has rebranded since our last visit- and it was just lovely. The staff are super-nice and helpful. The facilities were great, and we had the best stay. Nothing was a problem and the kids loved the pool and spas. Loved the pillows and the beds were bliss. The breakfast was awesome, and the kids didn't want to leave. Every staff member was friendly, helpful and just made it a really lovely stay.

Room Tip: If you aren't familiar with Rotorua, ask for a room overlooking Whakarewarewa.
