We visited the village as part of a small tour group from a cruise ship. It was very interesting to see how the Maori had made their settlement around, and made use of, the thermal pools. The cultural show was good without being too long. The geyser, which is a little way off, wasn't very active while we were there.

We were happy that our B&B recommended this tour - we were looking for more of a lesson in Maori culture than grand tourist entertainment, and we came away satisfied. Our guide continues the proud tradition of women guides from this village, and gave us a balanced lecture in history and culture. Stops along the route included the plaza outside the marae, thermal cooking areas, a craft demonstration, a geyser basin overlook, and a musical performance. The musical segment of this tour includes an introduction to each song's story, and the music varies from the energetic haka to beautiful love ballads. We were sorry we had to move on without dining or exploring the walks beyond the village.

We went there in the hope of meeting and seeing the residents of the village as well as learning first hand about their culture.
The tour was good and you do see many hot pools and mud pools and if you are lucky enough to see the geysers erupting, but they are quite a distance away.
The show was very entertaining.
But we didn't see any residents of the village except some children, when we first started the tour, asking for 'pennies' as their tradition and diving for them ...
Didn't see any crafts being made or them cooking the corn, did see them put the food in the inground oven.
l have to say, l was disappointed, l was hoping for a more personal contact with the villagers as this was my main reason for going there .
There are many hot pools all over Rotorua which you can see, some for free and at $35 each , that was too much l felt.

We really enjoyed this tour, was entertaining & informative without any pressure to purchase goods at the end. Saw the cultural dance and that was great as well! We went into one of the shops to find a cd and the guy was so nice, friendly and happy to help also telling us about their ancestors. Was not a planned trip, we stumbled upon the village but glad we went in!!

Bubbling mud, geysers and scenic views provide a good tour. Tour guide did a good job of describing area and the natives.
