We spent an afternoon at the Museum on our recent trip to Rotorua.

While a little bit pricey ($20 per adult I think), the exhibitions were excellent. In particular we enjoyed the gallery on the history of Rotorua, and the exhibition on the old baths that the building use to be.

Don't miss the cinema with a movie on the regions history.

Popular with tourists and locals especially school students interested in the history of the region.
The colourful building is great in photos and the cafe just next to it is kept busy with the many visitors. Lovely view of the surrounds from the museum with many local attractions nearby.

Visited the Museum and while I found many of the displays interesting, they were not unlike what I've seen elsewhere. However , the area of the museum where the old bathhouses were was very interesting and a real look into what people put themselves through in the name of health. The building was beautiful, the view from the viewing deck was great, and the walk down into the basement a real eye opener. Worth going to see, just unsure if the admission fee was appropriate for a regional museum.

The highlight was the volcano eruption cinema experience. Walking around admiring the art, history, mud baths, architecture and viewing platform completed a super afternoon. A must for anyone wanting to learn much more about the area, history and culture in a short time.

A very well planned and helpful museum, helped us to get to grips with some of the Maori history so that we understood more of what we saw elsewhere. Lovely building and setting, could have been there longer as so much to see. Nice cafe for refreshments, can go out of the museum and back in if you want to. I
