A very well planned and helpful museum, helped us to get to grips with some of the Maori history so that we understood more of what we saw elsewhere. Lovely building and setting, could have been there longer as so much to see. Nice cafe for refreshments, can go out of the museum and back in if you want to. I

You need at least 2 hours to take in all this history. The old baths are interesting. Nice cafe in the building.

Really enjoyed visiting this. Didn't now the history of the building, the guided walk was informative and would definitely recommend visiting here - especially on a wet day like we had.

The Rotorua Museum is a beautiful building in a beautiful surrounding with content and exhibits focusing on the building, the town, and the history and culture of the surrounding Maori people. There is a beautiful glass boat at the centre of this exhibit. I would have loved to know more about it.

I spent about 2 or 3 hours here and easily could have spent longer. There was so much to read and learn that I couldn't possibly take it all in. I wish there had been a book with at least some of the information in it that I could have purchased in the store. A MUST SEE.

We spent a rainy afternoon here during our recent holiday in Rotorua and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the displays. As well as several galleries displaying contemporary and traditional art we were able to explore the history of the building, seeing some of the actual old bath rooms as well as going down into the basement to look at pipes and up into the rafters and out to the viewing platform. There is a great little movie about the Mt Tarawera eruption during which the seats shake! The building which houses the museum is quite stunning and has recently been completed according to the original specifications so it is even more impressive than it used to be. We enjoyed the cafe too.
