Our visit to Rotorua Museum was excellent. Highly recommend you visit. The interactive earthquake display was amazing and almost scary. The building was once a spa bath house and the remains of the baths and the workings are still visible. The surrounding gardens are a pleasure. We arrived late afternoon and soon realised that we should have gone much earlier as there was a lot to see.

“shelter form the rain”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

Our stop in Rotorua was a very wet one. After having a look around the city we headed to the Museum.
We thought the $20 fee for adults was a bit high, but after spending over 2 hours in there, considered it was worth while.
The building has had a lot of restoration work done on it, and is well kept.
The displays are all set out well and the volcano room with the moving seats gives you a real feel for the violance of the past.We could associate with that as coming from Christchurch with our earth quakes
The bath house was an interesting bit of history, and you get to go right down under the building.
Well worth the time ,but you need around 2 hrs to do it justice

“Maori history lesson.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

In September, my husband and I visited the Museum. A couple of hours is needed to see it all, from the building's historic exterior to displays of Maori culture, 5 art galleries, the volcanic eruption devastation and the fascinating Bath House, which is like taking a peak into it's heydays when it was called the Great South Seas Spa, which must have been quite an upper class thing to visit and bathe in the mineral waters and take the sometimes bizarre treatments!
It is popular with the schools, as there were two schools visiting when we were there, with all the children being very well behaved!
Entry was $20 which I thought was expensive, however, being housed in such a lovely historic building and for the quality of the exhibits, plus the way they are presented, it is worth it!
There are toilets, a Museum shop and a Cafe.
I feel it is a must if visiting Rotorua.

Museum is a must to visit, the fee was abit disappointing especially when your visiting a place in your own country but alot to see & learn from, weather was cold but it never put us off wandering around the outside grounds, we enjoyed our time there...

“Wandering the museum”

Kids enjoyed the holiday sheet that they had to fill in the clues to open the safe. It was fun exploring the old bathing area and wearing the hard hats to go into the tunnels
