Great place to get up and close with numerous types of animals. The bird displays are tremendous and all the trout farms, lizard displays are great. Our favourite was the Kiwi enclosure learning all about the iconic creatures then walking through nocturnal environment trying to spot them. The best thing was entry allows reentry at night when Kiwis are awake so you get value for your money and see them in their natural ways. We saw 4 Kiwis and was one of the highlights of our Rotorua trip. Would recommend others coming here too. The Big Splash ride isn't the greatest so if there's a line - don't bother but we were lucky to walk straight on. Be aware the ride closes at 5pm but if you get there at 4pm, staff let you go through the back entrance (via the gift shop) to do it first so you don't miss out :)

Thank you for your review and your positive comments about our Kiwi Encounter facility.
Great also that you managed to return at night time, one of the kiwi you would have seen the evening you visited laid their first egg last night!
We appreciate your feedback and wish you safe & happy travels.

Visited during the day & paid extra to see "behind the scenes" of kiwi egg incubation. Went back in the evening to see the kiwis getting up. Saw 4. Rained a lot but the walk round the site was great after dark.

Thank you very much for posting your thoughts.
We love hearing feedback from our guests and it is great you made use of our all-day ticket to return at night time to see our kiwi display without glass. You may be interested to know that one of the kiwi you saw when you visited has just laid an egg (last night!).
Thanks again for taking the time to review the park and we hope to welcome you back again another day.

We wished to see and photograph a kiwi in the kiwi house and decided to go on our last day. We telephoned the day prior and were told we had to take a tour between 10am and 4pm. We booked the 10am. On arrival we missed the turn as the major signage stated 'The Big Splash" whatever the heck that is, so we had to do a U turn and try again - very annoying and not a good start!
We paid our entrance fee and I had my camera as I was keen to get a photo of a kiwi uninhibited by glass(as stated in their brochure). On paying our $100 the cashier stated"The kiwi is behind glass and no photography is allowed". Then we were told by another staff member that if we went after about 8.30pm we could see the kiwi without glass in front...but now this was too late as we had to be back at Auckland that afternoon. There seems to be a distinct lack of knowledge by their staff of what is allowed and available on the telephone as well as at the attraction!
We didn't go in and received got a refund, but left extremely disappointed!

What a great review - Thank you!
The park at night is certainly a lovely experience and our guides as part of the Mitai combo do an excellent job.
Thanks again.

pleasant little wildlife park but not that much there unless you include the optional very educational kiwi tour - we loved it! the log flume ride was fun and we went on it a few times as it was relatively quiet
