Owner description: Polynesian Spa is New Zealand’s leading international day spa. In a picturesque, tranquil setting overlooking Lake Rotorua, visitors can enjoy a wonderful fusion of relaxing hot spring pool bathing, sumptuous spa and massage therapies and picturesque lake views. Polynesian Spa has the use of two types of hot mineral water, one alkaline and one acidic, that are the unique point of difference of the operation. Many thousands of visitors to the spa have attested to the remedial effect the hot mineral waters have on such ailments as muscular complaints, arthritis and rheumatism. The Priest and Radium springs are most noted in this respect. We invite you to experience this World Top Ten Spa (natural/thermal/medical), as voted by readers of the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller magazine for several years and once again in 2011. We look forward to welcoming you to Polynesian Spa.

“Great signature therapy!”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

I decided to try one of the signature services - Thermal Mub polish & Aix spa
massage combo and it was amazing, so worth trying it)) Rupena has magic hands! Massage with coconut oil involving warm water running feels great, after mud and oil my skin felt amazing too!

“Confusing sign boards to the Spa”
Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

Visited the spa and opted for the private pool as the public pool was just like a swimming pool full if tourists. There's almost no room to move around. It was costly though for the private pool but the view was spectacular.
One confusion was the sign boards from the Government House to the spa. It was very confusing and we ended up walking through the natural thermal park. I think that's what it's called.

Thank you for taking the time to post feedback. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the views over Rotorua. We appreciate your comments with regards to pricing but we feel that our prices are very much in line with the attractions in Rotorua. Thank you also for bringing the signage to our attention, we are not responsible for the signage off site so I will look in to this.

“Amazing Spa Experience”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

On a recent trip to Rotorua, my friend and I booked massages at the Polynesian Spa. We went with a little trepidation about the experience--both of us were concerned about the sulfur smell surrounding the spa and nearby lake. We are so glad we didn't let that deter us! Oh My Goodness--this will go down as one of our best spa days EVER (and we are girls that like our spa days!). After checking in, we followed staff recommendations to enjoy the Lake Spas for an hour before our scheduled massage treatments. We tried all four pools, working from coolest to hottest, and were happily surprised that the sulfur smell off the lake didn't bother us much at all. After changing into our robes, we met our masseurs in the pleasant waiting area, then were moved into heavenly private massage rooms with gorgeous open air lake views--the best of both worlds of an indoor and outdoor massage at the same time. Our massages were blissful--both masseurs were skilled, professional, and polite. Afterwards, we got to enjoy our tea in the amazing Relaxation Room overlooking the lake. No one else was there--total privacy. The Polynesian advertises that it is one of Conde Nast's Top Ten spas in the world--it certainly makes our list! We would make the trip to Rotorua again just for this experience!

It was our pleasure hosting you ladies for what seems like a well-deserved day at the Spa. Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We encourage guests to have a soak in the deluxe Lake Spa prior to their therapy to help the relaxing process and finish it off with some down time with herbal tea in our Relaxation lounge. We look forward to hosting you in the future.

“Great place to unwind”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

My husband and I spent a few hours in the adult thermal pools at the Polynesian Spa after two days of playing tourist in Rotorua. Beautiful views of the lake, with steam rising off the surface and a very relaxing experience. The thermal baths themselves are thoughtfully designed with cold showers and drinking water available to cool off as you switch from one pool to the next. We went in the morning and were happy to find that there were only a few people around. I imagine it must look lovely at night as well, but we enjoyed having the place to ourselves.

Thank you for your lovely review. It looks like you thoroughly enjoyed your recent visit with us. The morning is one of the best times to visit as you almost have the pools to yourself. We have the water fountains and cold shower there for our guests comfort so I am glad you both appreciated it. We look forward to having you here in the future :)

“The Polynesia spa has lost a bit of its “SPA feel””
Reviewed February 26, 2013

The Polynesia spa is really nice, but as a returning guest, it has lost a bit of its “SPA feel” and is more becoming an expensive public swimming pool. There were lots of Chinese visitors and maybe the spa culture is very different in China. In any case people were yelling and screaming to each other and staff did not do anything to keep the noise level down. This is a petty: A spa is normally an area where you relax, but because staff and management let noise level gets totally out of hand, half the pleasure and relaxation is lost.
Otherwise really nice place.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I sincerely appreciate your feedback. I am very disappointed to see that you did not have the experience that we strive for all our guests to have. During February it was Chinese New Year and it was a very busy time here at the Spa but we do still expect our staff to inform guests to keep noise to a minimum so it does not disrupt other guests' experience. I am glad that despite this most recent visit you do still enjoy visiting our complex and I hope this does not deter you from visiting in the future.
