“Shame about the rain”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

The only bummer was the weather wasn't great. There are boardwalks around the park so with a raincoat it wasn't too bad. Great to pat the lion cubs, although at 8 months there not so small now. Rainbow trout were cool and the kids loved watching them through the underwater glass. Saw the lion feeding but unfortunately the sound system wasn't working too well (could have been because of the rain) so couldn't really hear what was being said. It was great to see lions actually moving around and making noises unlike most zoos you visit.

“The lion cubs were very cute!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

A little pricey for the experience ... mind you, we're farmers so see most of the animals at the park on a daily basis! But the lion cubs were terribly cute (despite the very long line to see them), and the adult lions were very fierce. The park has been renovated beautifully since I last visited (in the 1980s) - very impressive.

“Lion Cubs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

This is a beautiful wildlife park arranged with nice walkways and many photo opportunities. We arrived in time to watch the feeding of the lions. From there we went to the lion cub compound where we were allowed to pet the lion cubs. A memorable moment.

“Ripped off”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

We were very excited about visiting this place - the brochure showed a picture of a little girl holding and cuddling a lion cub. So we travelled all the way from Auckland with our 9 year old very excited boy only to find the lion 'cub's were actually too big and he could only pat them briefly with one hand through bars and even then, just the back half. This was false advertising and a total rip off. It cost us nearly $100 for us to go in and that was the main attaction. Will not go again.

“Loved this place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

We came here based on the opportunity to pat a lion cub, which was a first! I would recommend ringing first though to check if there are any cubs and how old they are, as obviously you can't always do this. At the moment there are two cubs about 7 months old and you can only pat them through a fence as they are now too big, but when they are smaller you are able to hold them. The rest of the park is really lovely, one of those walk through wild-life parks that I think NZ does so well. Perfect for really small children; you can feed lots of animals, and it's quite small.
